the feast: i.e. the Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:33, &c).

Verse 4

the Levites toot up. These were the bearers, but the priests (being Levites also) brought it into the house (as stated in 2 Chronicles 5:7 and 1 Kings 8:3). Hence, in 2 Chronicles 5:5 they are called "the priests and the Levites". See note on Deuteronomy 17:9.

Verse 5

tabernacle = tent. Hebrew. "ohel. App-40.

holy vessels = sanctuary vessels. See note on Exodus 3:5.

the priests and the Levites. See note on Deuteronomy 17:9.

Verse 6

congregation = convocation, or muster.

Verse 7

the priests. See note on 2 Chronicles 5:4.

the oracle. See note on 2 Samuel 16:23.

the most holy place = the Holy of Holies.

Verse 9

drew out. Compare 1 Kings 8:8.

unto this day. This is a copy of 1 Kings 8:6-8, or an addendum by Ezra; because it is not applicable to "the day" of the writer, as may be seen from 2 Chronicles 36:22, 2 Chronicles 36:23. But may this possibly have a mysterious reference to Revelation 11:19?

Verse 10

nothing in the ark save. See note on 1 Kings 8:9.

Verse 11

all. On this occasion all served; not "by course". Note the parenthesis in verses: 2 Chronicles 5:11-12.

were sanctified = had sanctified themselves.

Verse 12

Jeduthun. See note on 1 Chronicles 16:41.

at the east end: i.e. facing west.

Verse 13

For He is good, &c. Compare Ezra 3:11.

mercy = lovingkindness, or grace.

cloud, even the house of. Septuagint reads "cloud of the glory of".
