Title: Father's Promise
Contents
No matter how good a car is, it is useless without fuel. What is the ability of a Christian to live a dynamic life? After Jesus was resurrected and ascended to heaven, the disciples were left alone. So Jesus tells his disciples to “wait for what the Father has promised”. What is your father's promise? He is going to send the Holy Spirit. This is what Jesus asked the Father for.
Although it is a promise that Jesus gives to his disciples, the command is to wait and the Holy Spirit will come upon you. In an evil and rebellious world, the weak and cowardly disciples can become witnesses of the gospel and live a victorious life by receiving the filling of the Holy Spirit, which is the promise of the Father. In fact, the disciples waited. And the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost. The disciples were transformed and led dynamic lives. No one could stop the disciples. Because no one can stop the work of the Holy Spirit.
1. The Holy Spirit is God.
The Holy Spirit is the third God of the Trinity. It is the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ. Therefore, the Holy Spirit existed from eternity. You are omnipotent. You are omnipresent. The Holy Spirit, of course, also has a person. The Holy Spirit is not a material or impersonal entity.
2. The Holy Spirit in the Bible
① The relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Father
The Spirit of God (Matthew 3:16), the Spirit of the living God (2 Corinthians 3:3), the Spirit of your Father (Matthew 10:20), the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God (1 Peter 4:14)
② The relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Son Jesus
The Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9), the Spirit of Jesus (Acts 16:7), the Spirit of the Son (Galatians 4:6), the Other Comforter (John 14:16)
③ Another name for the Holy Spirit
Spirit of life (Romans 8:2), Spirit of holiness (Romans 1:4), Spirit of wisdom (Ephesians 1:17), Spirit of faith (2 Corinthians 4:13), Spirit of truth (John 14:17), Spirit of grace (Hebrews 10:29), Spirit of adoption (Romans 8:15)
④ Symbol of the Holy Spirit
Dove (Luke 3:22), oil (Acts 10:38), wind (John 3:8), fire (Acts 2:3), seal (the Holy Spirit is sealed, Ephesians 1:13) Guarantee (2 Corinthians 5:5)
3. What the Holy Spirit Does
It leads to salvation by believing in Jesus (1 Corinthians 12:3). He convicts us of sin and sets us free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). It makes you a new person and allows you to enter the kingdom of God (Titus 3:6-7). He gives peace and hope to the saints (Romans 15:13). He makes us bear fruit in our faith life (Galatians 5:22-23) and gives us zeal, power, and gifts to preach the gospel (Acts 4:8).
4. Saints must be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Being filled with the Holy Spirit refers to a life in which God the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, dwells in us and is completely ruled and governed by us. It signifies total trust and obedience. Why do we need to receive only the filling of the Holy Spirit? Because humans are fragile. Because we cannot win without the help of the Holy Spirit. When we do not receive the help of the Holy Spirit, we are anxious about the unknown world. They are anxious about the feeling of guilt that comes frequently, and they have anxiety about the loss of the meaning of their existence and about death.
To be filled with the Holy Spirit, we must accept Christ and repent of our sins. You must pray for the Holy Spirit. We must pray and believe. We must be filled with the Word. The Holy Spirit dwells in every Christian. However, not everyone lives a life filled with the Holy Spirit. The disciples waited for their father's promise. And I was filled with the Holy Spirit. The Lord sends the Holy Spirit to us that he sent to his disciples. Just as the disciples waited and prayed, we hope that we too will believe and ask for you to be filled with the Holy Spirit and become powerful saints.
