Title: Father's Wail

Contents

"The king's heart was very sore, and he went up to the gatehouse and wept. As he went up, he said, My son Absalom!

My son, Absalom, my son, if I had died in your place, Absalom, my son, my son” (2 Samuel 18:33).

1. A sad history of a certain family

- The text records an event that took place in David's family.

- David had 26 children. His first son, Amnon, fell in love with his half-sister Tamar and raped him. He was David's third son, who was hurt and weeping, and Absalom, Tamar's real brother, was to take revenge. While waiting for the right time, a banquet was held and Amnon was invited and killed.

- Absalom fled because he was afraid of his angry father David, and for a long time David and Absalom had to live like men and women.

- As time passed, the servants realized David's desire to see Absalom, and they reconciled and lived close to each other.

2. Absalom plotting rebellion

1) To win the hearts of the people

- In the end, Absalom develops a terrible desire to drive a huge nail into his father's chest, in order to kill his father and become king.

- Absalom spent money to organize a personal guard of 50 men, and he brought to his side the most capable men from his father's close associates. He thoroughly tried to rebel.

2) The nail in the father's chest

- And David blew the trumpet in Hebron, where he had been anointed, and declared that he had become king over Israel, followed the counsel of Ahithophel and invaded the royal palace and committed the evil of having sex with the king's concubines.

- At this time, David wept bitterly, risking ashes and hastily fled barefoot.

- This pierced David's chest with a dagger, not because of the usurpation of the throne, but because of the betrayal and rebellion of his dearly beloved son.

- An army was mobilized to suppress the rebellion, and after a fierce battle, all of Absalom's forces were subdued, and Absalom was killed.

3. My Son, My Boy

1) Children, be eternal boys

- The first thing David asked the soldier who was running to announce the outcome of the battle was not the outcome of the victory, but the news of his son Absalom.

- David asked, "Is the boy Absalom okay?" Here, 'boy' is 'naar ( )' in Hebrew, which is also translated as 'little child'.

- Even though he was a son who hated his father and rebelled to kill him, insulting his father's wives and inflicting indescribable shame, when he heard the news that the rebels had been subjugated by his son's death, he renounced all his hands and went up to the gatehouse and went up to the gatehouse. Howling like a human.

2) Parental love, the shadow of God's love

- The love that parents love for their children is the nature God Himself planted in people to preserve mankind in this world and to show God the Father who is the true Father.

- Many people say that their parents are hurt, but a parent's love for their child is incomparably greater than a child's love for their parents.

- However, even if children go on talking about the wounds they received from their parents, they just keep burying in their hearts the love they gave to their children.

- Thinking of the amazing love and care your parents gave you, you should give your heart to them and become a family that truly embraces them and lives together. 2004-05-16
