Title: Five Elements Necessary for Healing

2 Kings (12) Five Elements of Healing

(2 Kings 5:1-15)

1. open ears

One day, the Arameans went out in a group and took a young girl from the land of Israel to serve Naaman's wife (verse 1). The girl said to her mistress (verse 2). “May our master be before the prophet in Samaria. He will heal the leprosy.” The miracle of Naaman's healing begins when he hears the girl's story.

In fact, it is a miracle that Naaman heard the words of a young Jewish maidservant from captivity, which was rare in the days of the ancient patriarchs. If the words of such a humble person are necessary, you must be able to listen to them. Of course, you shouldn't listen to anything. More often than not, problems arise from hearing the wrong word today. So guard your ears, but listen to what you need to hear. When your ears are opened, the door to miracles will also open.

2. Giving heart

When Naaman told the king the girl's words and asked him to come and go to Israel, the king gave him permission and he offered to send a letter to the king of Israel. So Naaman left with ten talents of silver, six thousand pieces of gold, and ten sets of garments (verse 5). If you can solve your own problems, you have prepared your heart to pay a great price. You cannot move God's heart with 'a lot of money'. However, ‘a heart to give purely’ moves the heart of God.

If you want to be healed, there are some things you need to prepare first. It is the heart of dedication. There is no blessing without sacrifice. God wants to see what we do with what we have in our hands before giving us a miracle. There is a saying like this. “Heaven helps those who help themselves.” But in the case of saints, the maxim should be changed to this. “God helps those who stretch out their hands.”

3. Obedience

Naaman arrived at Elisha's house with his horses and chariots. Seeing the grand procession, the Prophet did not greet me with tabi feet, but sent messengers without even looking at me, saying that if I wash myself in the Jordan River seven times, my flesh will be restored and I will be clean (verse 10). Naaman was furious and left the place. “I thought that he would come to me and stand up and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the area to cure leprosy.” At that time, Naaman said, “I think,” but his own thoughts are the problem.

People want God to do what they think and plan, like Naaman, but God has his own plan. God's concern is to see our obedient lives before our healing and problem solving. Why do life's problems come? It means learning obedience through that problem. Obedient, humble faith takes precedence over physical healing.

4. Absolute Trust

Enraged at Elisha's attitude, when Naaman was about to leave, the servants stopped him and said (verse 13). “My father! If the prophet had told him to do great things, would he not have done it? How much less would you obey me when I told you to wash and be clean?” Hearing these words, Naaman immediately went down to the Jordan River and immersed himself in the Jordan River seven times as Elisha said (verse 14). Then his flesh became as clean as that of a child.

5. Changed life

Naaman receives the grace of healing, confesses his faith in God, and offers a gift of thanks (verse 15). In fact, what really matters in the case of Naaman's healing is that he confessed his faith in God after being healed rather than the fact that Naaman was healed. This scene teaches us the importance of increasing faith and transforming into a person who can dedicate after receiving grace.

There are many miracles recorded in the Bible besides Jesus' 39 miracles, but the miracle behind the miracle of 'changed life' is more important than those miracles. Many miracles in the Bible have been concluded as changes in the person who experienced them. What God wants is a miracle in which the saints who have experienced miracles are transformed into people who can devote themselves to sharing and abandon their lives that depend on greed. In other words, after experiencing grace, you need to change your life to receive real grace.
