Title: Fellowship with God (1 John 1:1~10)
Contents
Starting today, let's meditate on the words of 1 John together.
1 John is the Bible written by the apostle John, who wrote the Gospel of John. So, it can be considered that the Bible in 1 John is closely related to the Gospel of John.
Unlike the other Gospels that focus on the deeds and ministry of Jesus, the Gospel of John focuses on Jesus Himself, in other words, who and what Jesus Christ is.
1 John also introduces who Jesus is and who He is, and encourages us to stand upright in Jesus Christ.
In today's text, the author introduces Jesus as the “word of life from the beginning”. (Verse 1)
It says that He was with God in the form of the Word from the beginning, but has now appeared among us in the form of the flesh. (Verse 2)
In John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Judging from these words, Jesus was with God from the beginning. Jesus Christ is the one who existed in the form of the Word in the beginning and came to this earth in the form of the flesh.
Now, all who are in Christ have fellowship with God the Father, who is the light through Jesus Christ. The God who comes to us and communicates with us is the light. “This is the message that we have heard from him and bring to you, that God is light” (verse 5). God is light and there is no darkness at all. However, if we say that we have fellowship with God and walk in darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth.
The Christian life should be a life of walking in the light. It shouldn't be a life that follows the darkness. By the way, how many forces of darkness are around us that have been polluted by sin. Temptations of all kinds of dirty and ugly sin abound. We must overcome the forces of darkness that have been stained with these sins.
In order to do this, we must have a continuous relationship with God through Jesus Christ, who came to this earth as the Word and is still living among us. This means that we must have communion with God through the Word of God.
I hope that today will also be a day to share deep communion with God through the Word. Because that is the only way to not dwell in darkness and to dwell in light.
