Finding the faithful
Text/ Genesis 24:9-27
Why did God give us this scene of obtaining Rebekah, Abraham's father-in-law, through a long passage in Genesis 24? Today, I would like to share with you what a faithful servant is through the scene where Eliezer, Abraham's servant, whom Abraham treasures and cherishes, seeks the wife of his master whom he serves, the pride of Abraham.
I want you to ask two questions.
First, am I a faithful servant compared to Abraham's slave Eliezer?
Second, if I am a faithful servant, what attitude did I have before God?
As you listen to these words, please answer your own questions.
So, who is loyal?
First, a faithful person is a person with a sense of purpose (mission).
This servant, sent by Abraham, lived without forgetting the mission entrusted to him by his master, even for a moment.
He meets Rebekah and invites him to his house, where he is treated by Laban.
There are beautiful food and banquet tables, but among them, the old servant said, “Why am I here at this hour? Why did I come all the way here and eat this food?” As a servant sent by the master, he has a strong sense of purpose.
Look at verse 33. 'I set some food before him, and the man said to him, "I will not eat until I have given my account." Laban said, "Speak.
How strong are you with your sense of duty? If you ask to find someone who is loyal, you can say that you are a person with a strong sense of duty.
It can be said that this attitude of slavery is imitated by our Jesus, who lived a faithful life. In John 6:38, in order to accomplish the will of the one who sent me, Jesus did not forget one thing, and preached the word until it was accomplished on the last day.
A person who lives with a sense of duty can be called a faithful person.
The second most loyal person is the one who does not lose his position.
Verse 36 says, "Sarah, my master's wife, bore a son to my master in her old age, and he gave all that he had to him." Also in verse 37, 'My master made me swear, saying, "You shall not take a wife for my son from among the daughters of the Canaanites, in the land where I live."
He does not lose his position, and continues to boast and say that he is a servant and the one who sent is the master.
In order for the church, the body of God, to be revived, it is possible when we serve and dedicate ourselves to the church with the attitude that I am a servant.
Look at Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God to be robbery, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, and became in human likeness being found in the form of a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of a cross."
Third, a faithful servant serves his master with the same heart throughout.
Look at verse 56, "The man said to them, "Do not resist me, for the LORD has given me a prosperous way; send me back to my master."
This old servant could have stayed there because he was happy with Laban's permission, but he told me not to stop and asked him to let me go back to share this news and joy with his master.
It is the attitude of serving the master with the same heart as the first.
When God sets up church officers, they serve well at first, but over time they become disorganized. However, we should imitate the way we serve our master with the same heart, regardless of our age, looking at this slave.
I know how to run toward the life God has called me to without looking back and not settling for reality. I believe that this life is the life of faithfulness.
Beloved, are you bystanders or loyal ones?
If you are a faithful person, how do you serve the Lord?
We are born and live in this world according to God's plan.
I hope that you will live your life without forgetting the sense of mission God has given you.
