Title: Flee to the Lord
Flee to the Lord

“O Sovereign Lord, my eyes are on you; in you I take refuge; do not leave my soul in need” (Psalm 141:8).
I. Background of the text
No one loved God and loved God like David in the Old Testament times. Although David was the best in knowledge of God, the text reveals how much suffering David suffered. Verse 7 “… Our skulls have been scattered at the gates of Hades.” To the extent that the skulls are scattered in the grave, which is expressed as a symbol of extreme despair, David is pleading with the Lord for a soul that is about to die and the circumstances of extreme suffering.
II. When you flee to the Lord
- This shows the poet who met a time when he had no choice but to flee to the Lord. In our experience, when we are full of grace, we can feel God's love even more by relying on God's providence even in times of trials and tribulations. But the farther we move away from grace, the more the inner corruption that has grown within us can stand in the way between us and God, creating a distance and alienation between us.
A. In the midst of environmental crisis
Verse 7 is the most desperate part of David's psalm about suffering. Then why did God give such an environment of suffering? When we are captivated by God's love, we realize that God's grace transcends all circumstances. However, God calls us in the midst of a crisis because He wants us to understand and know by moving the environment. However, rather than spiritual and spiritual experiences, sharing the fellowship through the intellect through the Word is the channel of fellowship that God wants. The reason the Lord communicates the will of the Lord by shaking the environment is that humans are greatly influenced by the environment. By removing the sacrifices, loved ones, etc. on which we have been leaning, He makes us realize that what we depended on is really fleeting and futile.
The time when God hurts us the most is when He shows us that He loves us the most. When the Lord gives us trials, hardships, and crises of circumstances, we realize the big gap between the happiness we pursued and the happiness we enjoy in God and repent of our mistakes. However, we must not forget that God wants us to realize and turn back through His Word more than we do through circumstances to make us aware of us, so that our daily fellowship becomes a daily fellowship. Those who constantly realize and turn to the Word of God do not face great environmental crises, but constantly and routinely experience the pain of being broken through the Word. Realizing that I am guilty of my sins through the Word, I experience death where the pain pierces my lungs and pierces my bones. However, when grace is lacking, the intellect cannot hear the word of God, and even if it does, it is selectively taken or thrown away. Thus, God uses the environment to communicate the word. You must know the love of God who constantly warns you and calls you to return.
B. In the midst of the poverty of the soul
If we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we can experience more grace in times of suffering, but when suffering comes when grace is lacking, the suffering of the soul is deeper and greater. Everything in the world is born, decays, dies and perishes. It is we Christians who are called to lift up our eyes to see the heavens in the midst of these perverted and transitory worldly things. A troubled soul cannot hope for God and live full of thanksgiving. Therefore, when the soul feels destitute, it is time to turn to God. All things in the world exist because God feeds them, but how much more can a human being with a soul be able to live and enjoy happiness without God? Only the Lord who is truth is our food. Those who pursue the love of the world and the pleasures of the flesh are like eating sand on the beach to avoid hunger. Even at this time, I hope you realize that your soul is not poor and that you are not ignoring the call of God's love.
Ⅲ. Prayer, the way to overcome despair
I sincerely hope that you will come to God on your knees and become believers who will always live in the fullness of God's grace. 2005-10-16
