Food of Life (John 6:26-35)
There is a reason why we never lose heart in our tribulation. It is because God has given us the weapons of prayer. Unbelievers despair, but we do not despair for a reason. Because we have the weapons of prayer.
George Valley is located in Pennsylvania, USA. A statue is erected there to commemorate a young man who knelt and prayed in this valley in the old days. That young man is George Washington. On a cold winter day in December 1775, when British and American troops were fighting, the war was about to end in defeat for the United States. All Americans were weary and exhausted. In such a situation that it is now annihilation and the end, the commander George Washington went into the barracks and prayed for four hours. In the context of that war where gunshots come and go.
“God save me. God, save this country and me.”
I prayed for my life. After the independence of the United States from Britain, George Washington, who became the first president of the United States, told this story in a record later. “The most pressing crisis of my life was that war. It was then that I fought for my life. He did not fight for his life with a gun, but through prayer. When I prayed, 'God save us,' God gave me grace and I was able to win.” After winning that war, George Washington said that he won the battle by God's grace without revealing himself.
Besides prayer, there are things that do not discourage us. It is <The Word of God>. The word of God gives us hope even in the midst of despair, and leads us to eternal life and light even in death and darkness.
1. The Word becomes the power to change your life.
One day in May 1985, an Asian stranger attended the graduation ceremony of Columbia University in the United States, with tears in her eyes. His name is Jeon Jae-kyung, and he is 50 years old, and what caught his attention was the fact that he was blind unlike the person who opened it. Dr. Jeon Jae-kyung was born in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do, the sixth of two sons and five daughters to his father, who was a carpenter, and grew up as a normal child. However, when he was 7 years old, he suffered from eye disease, which was popular at the time, and eventually went blind. From then on, days of pain and misery began.
However, after entering Seoul School for the Blind, he endured the fate of frustration and pain, studied hard, and entered the Department of Historical Geography at Konkuk University. After graduating from university, he had many disabilities, but he did not give up and came to America for one year of training in the United States and was given the opportunity to receive a scholarship. With a life of giving thanks to God for everything, he traveled to and from the library for the blind, which had to change three times on the crowded subways of New York, for 20 years. In 1985, when he turned 50, he finally received a doctorate in philosophy. He married Edna while studying, and confessed that his academic studies would have been impossible without the help of his religious wife.
It was the firm Word of God that made the impossible of his life possible. He found the reason for his existence in the Bible. (Ephesians 2:10) “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
The Word is a lamp that illuminates the path that life should walk, so even in the midst of difficulties, if you do not curse or give up on your destiny and have the confidence of the Word, you will wear the laurel wreath of victory.
(Psalm 119:105) “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
2. The Word makes you full and not thirsty.
The Gospel of John says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). “The Word became flesh” means that the Word is Jesus Christ.
To those who received Jesus Christ, that is, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). Those who become children of God do not thirst and do not go hungry. The children of fathers in the world are not hungry if their fathers are capable. The children of God, who are all-powerful and omnipresent, have no reason to be hungry or thirsty. Especially, because Jesus is the bread of life, if you believe in Jesus, you will never be thirsty or hungry.
There is a town called Sychar in a region called Samaria in the Bible. While Jesus was sitting by a well while walking on the road in Sychar, a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Then Jesus said to the woman who was drawing water, “Give me a drink,” and the Samaritan woman said, “Why, as a Jew, do you ask the Samaritan woman for a drink? Jews do not have any dealings with Samaritans...” Jesus said, “If you know who it is that asks for water, he will ask for living water.” “Whoever drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst. The water I give will become in him a spring of water that leads to eternal life.” The woman answered, “Teacher, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or come all the way here to draw water.” The woman who did not understand the concept of <living water that never thirst> said, “Lord, where can I get living water when there is no vessel to draw water from and the well is deep.”
The woman had five husbands to satisfy the thirst of the flesh, but Jesus said to the woman who wanted to satisfy the thirst of the flesh, “My husband is not my husband now.” After speaking of eternal living water, Jesus spoke to the woman about worship. “For God is spirit, the hour is coming, and now is the time to worship in spirit and truth. The Father is looking for those who worship him like this.”
Eternal living water can be obtained through the power of the Word, the comfort and peace of God, and the truth obtained through worship. If you experience God's grace given to worshipers, you will receive living water that will never thirst. After realizing everything, the woman left her water jar and went into the town and said, “Come here. It was Christ who told me all that I had done.”
“I hope that you too can testify to your neighbors that Jesus is the Christ.”
“Eternal life is in Jesus Christ, who is the source of living water that does not thirst.”
“Forgiveness of sins in Jesus, new joy can be found in Jesus”
We should not set the reason for believing in Jesus on a low purpose.
(John 6:48-51) "I am the bread of life. (49) Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, but they died; (50) This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that no one can eat it and die." 51) I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever. The bread I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
(Romans 1:16) “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
(Mark 9:23) "Jesus said to him, 'If it is possible, what do you mean? Nothing is impossible for those who believe!' do you"
Don't just base your faith in Jesus on low-quality food. Jesus said to him, "If it is possible, what do you mean? Nothing is impossible for those who believe." All lives are renewed through Jesus. receive forgiveness of sins. obtain salvation. When the dead hear the voice of Jesus, they come to life. A sick man came to Jesus and was healed. When a hungry man comes to Jesus, he gets something to eat. When a sad person meets Jesus, he finds comfort and joy. Please believe that Jesus is the only bread of my life.
3. The Word will turn you into people of thanksgiving.
(Deuteronomy 28:1) “If you listen carefully to the word of the LORD your God and keep and do all the commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you above all the nations of the world.”
(Deuteronomy 28:2) “All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the word of the LORD your God.”
(Proverbs 16:20) “He who pays heed to his word finds good; blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.”
(Ezekiel 12:28) “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus saith the Sovereign LORD, My words shall not be delayed any more, and my words shall be fulfilled,’ declares the Sovereign LORD.”
In the life of a grateful person, guests of happiness come, and in a life that is not grateful, guests of resentment and suffering do not leave. Therefore, the life of a grateful person looks at the hope that creates a beautiful life even in the midst of setbacks. All those who have worn the laurel wreath of victory in history have not cursed or given up on their destiny, but have accepted it with confidence and gratitude in the Word.
The life of a person who accepts life as it is and appreciates that there is life can be beautiful. Who can thank Jehovah God? Only those who are captivated by the Word can thank God.
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his mercy endures forever; they wandered in the desert road in the wilderness, and found no city to dwell in, and their souls were weary within themselves with hunger and thirst. He rescued them and led them in the right way, and brought them to the city to dwell in. Blessed be the LORD for his lovingkindness and for his marvelous works (Psalm 107:1,4-8).
If you lose gratitude, you lose your life. Gratitude gained by condition disappears when the condition disappears. However, the thanksgiving of faith that believes in the Word allows us to look beyond the conditions and circumstances and look at the unseen hope.
I hope that through the Word today, peace and gratitude can overflow in our hearts. I hope that you can become a person of thanksgiving through the Word. I hope you can change your life through the Word. I hope that you will not be thirsty forever through the Word.
