Title: For Jesus
Jesus entered a village called “Bethany”. There he visits the home where Lazarus lives. If we look more specifically in John 12, Martha served Jesus while working hard, Lazarus shared love with Jesus, and Mary poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet and washed them with her hair. Mary, especially moved by Jesus' love, poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet and washed it with her hair. Then Judas Iscariot came forward and said, “Why waste expensive perfume? Wouldn’t it be better if we sold perfumed oil for 300 denarii and gave it to the poor?”
Then Jesus said this in verses 10 and 11 of the text. “When Jesus knew this, he said to them, “Why are you tormenting this woman? She has done good to me. The poor are always with you, but I will not always be with you.” Mary poured perfume on Jesus’ feet. Poured and washed with hair. Verse 3 says, “Mary took a pound of very expensive perfume, that is, pure nard, and poured it on Jesus’ feet, and washed his feet with her hair, and the smell of perfume filled the ground.” According to Judas Iscariot, the perfume was said to be 300 denarii. One denarius is the average worker's daily wage. If the daily wage of a Korean worker is at least 50,000 won, 300 denarii is 15 million won. Mary poured the most expensive perfume on Jesus' feet and washed it with her hair. Mary did this “only for Jesus’ sake.”
But if you think about it, the perfume oil disappeared, and 300 denarii was wasted. So Judas Iscariot felt sorry for him. I thought it was wasted. But what you give to Jesus is never in vain. Jesus also speaks. Verse 12 says, “This woman has poured this perfume on my body for my funeral.” If Mary had used the perfume for other things, it would have been beneficial in her own way. However, when the perfumed oil was poured on Jesus, it became more valuable. I hope that you will live a more valuable life of faith by giving the most precious thing “for Jesus”.
