Sermons for Preaching

Title: For Revival (Acts 11:19-26)

Content “Pray that you will not fall into temptation!” (Luke 22:40,46).

These are the words of the Lord to the disciples who followed Jesus' habits.

These are the words you said when you went to pray alone (to the point of throwing stones) (Luke 22:41).

These are the words that he repeated once again when he returned from prayer and awoke the disciples from their deep sleep (Luke 22:46).

Temptation is no exception for those who have to live in the world.

Eve in Eden (Genesis 3), David in the royal palace (2 Samuel 11),

Disciples who followed Jesus (Representative-Peter, Luke 22:31-34, 54-62),

And Jesus himself was no exception (Luke 4:1-13; Matthew 16:23).

Of course, you have to pass the test. But that victory is not easy.

Because it is impossible with only ours.

That is why he told us to pray that we would not fall into the temptation of the Edo the Lord taught us (Matthew 6:13).

Pray that you will not fall into temptation,

We must pray to overcome the trials we have already faced, so we cannot stop praying and live (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

We cannot live without God's help.

The prophet Habakkuk, who lived in the sixth century B.C.E., also had to undergo a test.

Because of two unresolved issues.

1) Why are you only looking at the injustice of corrupt Judah? (Hab 1:2-4).

2) Why does God use an evil person (Babylon) to discipline Israel? (Hab 1:12-2:1).

the second question is

This is a question I asked after hearing God's answer to the first question.

The answer is Habakkuk's theme. “The righteous shall live by faith” (Hab 2:4b).

The way to overcome temptation is to receive God's help.

Habakkuk's last song is the song of those who overcome temptation with faith (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

“The Lord GOD is my strength…”

Today's Old Testament text (Hab 3:1-2) is based on this context.

“... Lord, may your work revive within these years.

Show me in these years. Do not forget mercy, even in your wrath.”

The expression “revival” (復興) is unique in the Bible.

The Hebrew word is 'Hayehu'. This is a Piel command of ‘haya’. ‘

The basic meaning of 'haya' is 'to live' or 'to have life'.

It appears in three senses in the Old Testament.

1) It simply means living safely and completely in contrast to death (Genesis 12:13; Numbers 14:38).

2) It means to recover health and receive treatment from disease or distress (2 Kings 8:8).

3) The dead means life or resurrection (1 Kings 17:22; Ezekiel 37:5).

The lecture form (Piel) adds meaning to ‘must’, ‘must’, ‘continue’, etc.

'It must be revival'.

Today's sermon is titled "For Revival".

It is the pastor's wish and the hope of many members.

Of course, there are things we need to do with prayer.

This is the image of the disciples waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit that the Lord promised (Acts 1:12-26).

1) Everyone gathered together and prayed (Acts 1:12-14).

Those who want revival should not attend public gatherings.

2) We filled the vacant position (Acts 1:15-26).

It was also chosen according to the will of God (lots were cast).

Today's New Testament text (Acts 11:19-26) will be the third thing we will do.

3) Evangelism. “They also preached the Lord Jesus to the Greeks” (Acts 11:20).

Evangelism that transcends existing barriers. And

4) It is a ministry where we see grace, rejoice, and cooperate together.

Let us boast of the church with Christ.

Let's be proud of our pastors.

Let us boast of the virtues of the saints.

It will revive you.
