Ⅰ. Threats and attacks from outside
Neh 4:1 When Sanballat heard that we were building a city, he was very angry and made fun of the Jews.
Neh 4:2 And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, saying, What are these feeble men of Judah doing to fortify themselves, to offer sacrifices, to finish in one day? and
Neh 4:3 Tobiah the Ammonite stood by and said, "The wall they are building, even if foxes go up, it will soon fall down."
A natural reaction of the forces of evil that can happen when the Lord's work prospers.
[Ne 2:10] When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobijah the Ammonite who had been a slave heard that a man had come to prosper the children of Israel, they were very grieved.
Acts in our ignorance of not seeing the God behind us
[2 Corinthians 4:18] For we do not look at what is seen, but on what is not seen, for what is seen is temporary, but what is not seen is eternal.
[Psalm 2:4] The one in heaven laughs; the Lord will laugh at them.
Underestimating God's work (not only underestimating God's riches and strength, his ability to create the world, and his authority to overcome the world, but also underestimating the church he established and us as God's children)
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him, for he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:38 The world is not worthy of such a man.
John 15:18 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before you.
Arouse holy wrath when the name of the Lord God is reproached for he belongs to Satan.
1 Samuel 17:45 David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have insulted.
1 Samuel 17:37 And he said, The LORD has delivered me from the claw of a lion and from the paw of a bear; he will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, Go, the LORD be with you.
Solution - Ministry while praying
Neh 4:4 Hear us, our God, for we are despised; we hope that they will turn their revilings on their heads, and make them a prey, and lead them into captivity in the Gentiles.
Neh 4:5 Do not cover up their iniquity before you, and blot out their sin, for they have stirred up your wrath before the builders.
Neh 4:6 So we built the city, and all were connected? It is half the price, because the people worked with their heart.
Neh 4:9 We pray to our God, and we have guards for them, guarding them day and night.
Ⅱ. Negative thoughts holding the ankles of ministry (attack from the inside)-blocked passage of blessing
Neh 4:10 And the men of Judah said, The heaps of dirt are still great, and the strength of the bearers has waned, and we shall not build the city.
Neh 4:11 Our adversary will say, Unbeknownst to them, and blind, we will rush among them and slaughter, and put an end to the work.
Neh 4:12 The men of Judah who lived near their enemies also came from all over the place and said to us ten times, 'You must come to us' (Fear).
Verse 10 We see frustration from within the Israeli community. I had to clear the pile of dirt from the collapsed castle where not even a donkey could pass, but a feeling of despair that I could not build a castle on my own because there were no people and no strength began to penetrate the working people. You must have thought, ‘Sanballat and Tobiah are not wrong.’ Words of opposition and criticism come up more and more.
At this time, Nehemiah is not discouraged, but rather exhorts the Israelites and gives them courage and strength. The reason for this was that Nehemiah himself was lacking, but he had the belief that if God, who had power and authority, allowed it, it would surely come true.
Nehemiah's courage was because he knew that he was weak, but that God's work was amazing. The cross was a symbol of failure and weakness, but through the most helpless cross, mankind was saved. God led the people of Israel with the small staff of Moses. Gideon defeated the enemy with a small lamp and a trumpet. The strong and strong city of Jericho fell with the trumpet of a ram's horn. David destroyed the giant Goliath with a small stone, and the ark was small, but it was enough to contain God's salvation.
The Bible says that the kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. The Bible says that we are not great ourselves, but because we have treasures in earthen vessels, earthen vessels are fragile, but the treasures contained in earthen vessels make earthen vessels noble.
Neh 4:14 After I looked back, I got up and said to the nobles, the chieftains, and the rest of the people, “Do not fear them, but remember the great and awesome Lord, and fight for your brothers and your children and your wives and your household.”
You can overcome opposition and criticism when you fear those to fear and fear what to fear. In verse 14, Nehemiah tells the people, “Do not fear them, but remember the great and awesome Lord, and fight for your brothers and your children and your wives and your household.” What the Israelites were afraid of were the soldiers of Sanbalak, Tobiah, and Geshem, who began to fight east, west, north and south. Fear of those who threaten their property and life
