Title: Four Evidences of Jesus

Text: John 5:32-47

Sermon: Yang Yirae Kang

We would like to share grace with the title of “Four Evidences to Introduce the Son of God”.

Background and context of the text

Verse 31 “If I testify of myself, it cannot be a true witness. Verse 32 But there is another one who bears witness to me. I know his testimony is true.” Jesus wants his chosen people to be saved through the clear evidence of God to the Jews. The evidence Jesus now enumerates and presents will give the believer the grace of salvation.

First Evidence: The Evidence of John the Baptist

Verse 33 “When you sent to John, he testified of the truth. Verse 34 But I do not accept the testimony of men. I am saying this so that you may be saved. Verse 35 John was a lamp that gave out light as it burned. So you were about to rejoice in the light for a little while.”

Second Evidence: Evidence of God the Father

Verse 36 “But I have a testimony greater than that of John. The work that the Father has entrusted me to complete, that is, the very work I am doing now, testifies that the Father has sent me. You have not heard his voice, nor seen his image, verse 38 nor keep his words in your heart. This is because you do not believe in him whom he has sent.”

How did God the Father testify of Jesus? Mark 1:9-11, “At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove; and a voice came from heaven. He said, “You are my beloved son, in you I am well pleased.” The reason they did not believe in Jesus even after hearing the evidence of God the Father's public voice was because they did not have the Word!!

Third Evidence: The Evidence of the Old Testament

Verse 39 says, “You are studying the Scriptures diligently, thinking that you will receive eternal life from the Scriptures, and these Scriptures testify of me.”

What did the Bible testify about Jesus? Luke 24:44 He said, “All that is written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.” The descendants of the woman in Genesis 3:15, the leather garments in Genesis 3:21, and the ram offered as a burnt offering in Genesis 22:13 instead of the gleanings! The Passover Lamb in Exodus 12 Numbers 21 The brass serpent on a pole Joshua 2:6 Rahab's red cord, Psalm 22 Why hast thou forsaken me? The stone the builders rejected in Psalm 118! Isaiah 53 The Servant of the Lord who suffers on the cross! In addition, the entire Old Testament testifies of Jesus Christ through over 750 revelation

Reasons for not believing in Jesus

Verse 40, “And yet you do not come to me to gain eternal life. Verse 41 says, “I am not glorified by men.”

The first reason for unbelief that Jesus pointed out is that we “do not come to Jesus.” You must have evangelized. Never read the Bible in front of me. I'll read Jubo's sermons, but I don't want to hear the Bible alone. It doesn't seem to come to Jesus.

Reasons for not believing in Jesus

Verse 42, “But I am well aware that you do not have a heart for God.”

The second unbelief Jesus pointed out is that “you do not have a heart to love God in your hearts.” The heart to love God starts when we understand the Bible. David challenges us and shows us the extent of his love for God, saying, “I look to the Lord all day long!” (Psalm 25:15). Those who are saved through the cross of the Lord have no choice but to love the Lord.

Reasons for not believing in Jesus

Verse 43 “I came in my Father’s name, but you did not receive me. But if another comes in his own name, you will welcome him.”

The third reason for unbelief pointed out by the Lord? That's what it means to "do not welcome Jesus". People from all over the world also make plans in advance when they invite valuable guests, and prepare to welcome them with good food and excitement. However, they did not want to welcome Jesus. Who is Jesus? The prophet Jeremiah says in 10:10 ...The Lord is the true God. He is the living God and the eternal King. When He is angry, the earth shakes and the nations cannot withstand His wrath. The Apostle John also stated in 1 John 5:20, “And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, that we may know the true One, and that we are in the true One, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. It made you know that there is. He is the true God and eternal life.” Jesus is God. Creator God! You are the savior. However, the world despises, despises, even curses, and curses the precious Jesus. It is a form of unbelief that does not welcome Jesus as a precious guest.

Reasons for not believing in Jesus

Verse 44 says, “How can you believe in me, since you seek the praise of one another from men, but not the praise of the one and only God?”

Verse 45 says, “Do not think that I will accuse you against the Father; on the contrary, the one who will accuse you is Moses, in your hopes.”

Jesus, of course, based on 4 reasons for the Jewish people's unbelief!! I can sue you! But your father Moses will accuse you! Why? It is the Messiah that Moses testified in the law! Jesus is now!! because you don't believe it. The sin of not recognizing Jesus as the Son of God! That is why Moses is going to sue.

Fourth Evidence: The Mosaic Evidence

Verse 46: “If you really believed Moses, I would have believed too. This is because Moses wrote about me. 47 But how can you believe my words if you do not believe the writings of Moses?”

Moses was given the law. The law also has the effect of convincing us of sin, but the Bible states that it is a schoolteacher who leads to Jesus!! Galatians 3:24 says, “So the law became our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified through faith.” Who is the dream teacher here? In Greek, it is called pai dagogos!, which is a compound word of pais (child) and dagogos 1 (leader), meaning teacher! Originally, it was called a slave servant who sent children back to school. In short, the law Moses received was to serve as a teacher to lead sinners to Jesus. The fourth reason for the unbelief of the Jews now is the evidence of Moses! No matter how much you study the law, you do not know the Jesus of which the teacher of the law testifies!

Dear fellow classmates

The Lord has revealed Himself to us through four evidences at this time. Through ① the evidence of John the Baptist, ② the evidence of God the Father, ③ the evidence of the Old Testament, and ④ the evidence of Moses!!, Jesus is the true God. The only begotten Son of God who was born as a human into the world! He testified that He is the Son of God!

application and practice

We must have evidence like the Lord. I want you to have proof that I believe in Jesus. Through the Bible, Jesus is the Christ! Son of God! only begotten! Saviour! Witnesses of Him! Hope to be an eyewitness! What is the clear evidence that you believe in Jesus? Think about it. The early church members confessed their faith and were martyred because of the evidence of Jesus. Have the testimony of Jesus. Only the disciple who has the testimony of Jesus can testify of the Lord. Who should you tell the witness of Jesus you have now? It's the unbelievers. The word that God has given through the text of today's text is that you have the testimony of Jesus!! And the clear gospel to those who have unbelief, the sure gospel of salvation, Jesus is the Christ! Son of God! It is to testify that the Savior! We earnestly hope that we will all become believers who are praised by God, not people, and that we will become the Lord's blessed disciples who spread the gospel with the testimony of Jesus.
