Title: Freedom from Covetousness (Luke 12:13)

freedom from covetousness

Luke 12:13-21

First, they are unaware that they are not the masters of their own souls. Our life is not ours. Who can do what they want? The fact that the farmer today defines himself as "many years" is a mistake in itself. The same is true. We too must have the wisdom to realize how foolish it is to set ourselves a limit of “many years” in our plans and live up to it. I am reminded of Paul's confession, but how wise is the confession "I die every day"?

It is also the fault of the farmer that he is utterly ignorant or ignorant of the fact that he should not live for his own satisfaction and pleasure. After all, unless we are the true masters, we should not plan as we want and use what we have as our own as if it were our own, but we should use it according to the will of the true master. What does God, the owner of everything, want? It's meant to be used well. It means to use it properly. is to share.

Recently, psychologists have published a study showing that people who like cycles are healthier, happier, and live longer than those who don't. People who can give to others feel less pain and suffering, are mentally healthier, less stressed, and less susceptible to disease. It is said that the joy of relief is better for your health than quitting smoking or exercising four or more times a week. In a five-year study of 400 older couples in the United States, researchers concluded that those who help others live significantly longer than those who do not. The head of the study [Professor Brown] asserted that "helping others prolongs one's life." A 1999 study of 2,000 people in the United States found that those who volunteered for two or more organizations were 63% less likely to die over the next five years than those who did not. What are you talking about? Giving is the way to live. Yet, not doing so is proof that the master of your heart and thoughts is not God, but yourself completely.

Today we look at this rich man and say he is foolish. What is the decisive basis for that? Psalm 14:1 says, "The fool says in his heart, There is no God."

After all, what is covetousness? Anything you try to gain without God is covetousness. Again, just because today's text is the story of a rich farmer, the scope of covetousness is not limited to material possessions. So are our talents and so are our plans for the future. What are you developing your talents for? What are we planning our future for? If it is only for one's own greed, it will be nothing more than that. Our plans and futures must be God-given to each of us. Money is not the only property. These days, knowledge is more wealth than money. Credit is property, ideas are property, honor is property, character is property, service spirit and health to serve are property, gaining people's hearts is property, and being respected is property. There are things that money can't do. At that time, depending on the person taking the lead, or because of the guarantor's personality, trust, and honor, there are many cases. However, it is foolish to lose all people, relationships, knowledge, credibility, and honor just by grabbing money.

Dear saints!

God is the master of our lives. When we acknowledge this, we will not go beyond that God, and that is the way to overcome covetousness. Please remember. Covetousness is anything you seek to gain without God. I hope you have the wisdom to realize today what is the way to freedom from covetousness.
