Gal 3:15-29 Through Faith Topic: 20. Faith 2010. 5. 2.
◎ Introduction
: In the churches of Galatia, it is said that a person is not saved by the grace of God through faith alone, but must observe the ordinances of the church, which is an erroneous doctrine, and focus his life on the law and doing all the good works he can do. taught.
1. Evidence of God's covenants and promises. (15~18)
2. Evidence of the powerlessness of the law. (19-22)
3. Evidence of what faith works. (23-29)
1. Evidence of God's covenants and promises. (15~18)
※ God's covenant and promise to Abraham prove that justification is achieved by faith, not by works of the law.
※ Man's covenant is also valid, but God's covenant is much more effective.
One). Covenant with Abraham and his descendants (16)
※ God made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants. (Genesis 17:7-8; Gal 3:6-7))
※ The Bible says that the descendant of Abraham is Jesus Christ. (descendant is singular)
① It means that the promises given to Abraham lead to Jesus Christ.
② It means that believers will inherit the world and reign with Christ for eternity.
③ It means that faith is the means by which we can be justified and become acceptable to God.
※ Abraham believed in God, and because of that faith, God kept his covenant and promise.
2). Before giving the law, God gave the covenant of faith. (17)
※ It precedes the law because God first gave the covenant of faith before giving the law.
① When the law was given, the promise made to Abraham was not yet fulfilled.
② The covenant made with Abraham teaches that it must be accepted by faith.
※ A person is justified not by keeping the law, but only through faith.
(As for the purpose of the law, Galatians 3:19-22; Romans 3:19-20; 7:7-13)
3). God gives an inheritance by promise. (18)
※ The inheritance given to Abraham means being accepted by God and receiving the privilege of living with Him for eternity in the new heavens and new earth.
2. Evidence of the powerlessness of the law. (19-22)
※ The law given to man is powerless to save a person, and the powerlessness of the law proves that man is justified through faith and becomes acceptable to God.
One). Purpose of the Law (19)
※ It was given to make people realize their own sins (Romans 3:20; 5:20; 7:7).
※ The law is temporary. That is, it is to be maintained during the journey from Moses to Jesus Christ.
※ When a person looks at Jesus Christ, he includes the righteousness of the law in his perfect attributes.
2). The law was given by the hand of an intercessor. (19~20)
※ The law was not given directly by God, but was given by an angel to Moses the mediator and to men.
(between the two parties, God and man)
3). The law has no life-giving power. (21)
※ The law is merely a word and a norm, and can only instill in the human mind an awareness of action, and it can give life to human beings.
can't give (Matthew 5:17; Romans 3:20-22; 8:3; Hebrews 7:19)
4). The law imprisons all men under sin. (22)
※ The important fact is that ① “The Bible” refers to the law.
② “Under sin” refers to the solitary abyss of despair or subterranean cell.
③ To compel them to seek righteousness by faith.
3. Evidence of what faith works. (23-29)
One). There are two descriptions of the purpose of the law. (23~25)
※ The law is ① a prison that binds people. ② I am a school teacher (guardian)
※ Every day, the school teacher takes the child to school, brings him to the child's teacher, and brings the child home safely at the end of class. This is what the law is supposed to do.
2). Faith in Christ makes us children of God. (26-27)
※ Faith puts our focus on Christ and cloths us with the righteousness and Sonship of Christ.
※ Christ is the embodiment of righteousness itself, and is the Son of God.
3). Faith in Christ removes all distinctions and prejudices and makes them one. (28)
※ All Christians stand on the same footing of faith, that is, before Jesus Christ.
※ Since genuine believers have a lasting relationship of love in Jesus Christ, when we look to others, we look in Christ.
4). Faith in Christ makes us heirs of the promise. (29)
※ The promise given to Abraham is the promise of God's blessing, presence, guidance, and the privilege of being accepted by God and endowed with the privilege of living forever in the land of Canaan (Heaven).
※ Jesus Christ is the heir of Abraham. Therefore, if a person is in Christ, he inherits the promise made to Abraham.
(John 14:1~2; Romans 8:15-17; Gal 3:29; 4:7; Titus 3:7; Hebrews 6:17; 1 Pet 1:3-4)
