Title: Gehazi) Sin and Punishment

Contents

2 Kings 5:20-27 (Gehazi's) Sin and Punishment Topic: 29. Judgment 2005. 7. 3.

Introduction

: Gehazi, the servant who refused Naaman's gift and thought it was not appropriate to send it, deceived Elisha and followed Naaman's party to take silver and clothing

This is not only blaspheming God's work, but also an evil act of deceiving God's prophets and taking unrighteous riches. As a result, Naaman suffers from leprosy.

1. Gehazi covetous (20)

2. Gehazi tricked Naaman into getting riches (21-24)

3. Punishment on Gehazi (25-27)

1. Gehazi covetous (20)

One). Covetousness arose in Gehazi's heart. (Reference: read the text of verse 20)

Gehazi thought that the gift Naaman wanted to give was the reward he deserved.

2) “As the Lord lives,” he is determined to obtain something from Naaman.

Gehazi may have rationalized the idea that if he received the gift, it would be beneficial to Elisha, Gehazi, and the prophet who accompanied him.

3). Gehazi's thinking is wrong.

① Ignorance of God’s work and

② I did not understand at all why Master Elisha refused the gift.

③ It is a human idea.

2. Gehazi tricked Naaman into getting riches (21-24)

1) Gehazi secretly pursued Naaman and his companions. (Note: Read 21-24)

“Are you in peace?” This is a word that seems strange to him when he realizes that the person following is Elisha's servant.

He asked, thinking that he must have brought Elisha's message because he did not know Gehazi's inner intentions.

2). Gehazi pretends to be false and asks for a talent of silver and two clothes.

At a time when clothes had to be knit by hand, two pairs of clothes and a talent of silver were worth a lot, and his impure intentions become clearer in this lie.

3). Gehazi hides his wealth from Elisha.

In the end, Gehazi, who easily obtained the desired wealth from Naaman, who wanted to give the gift from the beginning, hides it from Elisha.

3. The punishment given to Gehazi (25-27)

Gehazi hides what he got from Naaman and goes to Elisha. (25-27)

One). “Where are you from?” Elisha asked

Elisha asks Gehazi, who was standing in front of him as usual, as if nothing had happened.

This question was the last opportunity for repentance given to Gehazi.

Gehazi did not realize that God had already told Elisha everything.

Elisha had a clear view not only of the fact that Gehazi had received the silver and clothing, but also what he was going to do with them.

2) The sin of Gehazi

① Getting riches by lying (25)

② deceive God's servant (26)

③ Interfere with God’s work (26)

(It hindered God's work to teach the free grace of salvation through Naaman.)

While with Elisha, Gehazi saw more miracles of God than anyone else and learned the will of God.

Nevertheless, lying for covetousness and blaspheming God's work was an unforgivable sin and deserved a terrible punishment.

3). punishment for sin

① He was afflicted with leprosy, which Naaman had removed.

② His leprosy will extend to his descendants forever.
