19:1 When it was evening, the two angels came to Sodom, where Lot was sitting at the gate of the city of Sodom, and when he saw them, he got up to meet them, and bowed down to the ground.

19:2 And he said, My lord, turn and come into your servant's house, wash your feet, and sleep; and get up early and go on your way.

19:3 Then Lot begged, and he turned and came into the house. Lot set a table for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

19:4 Before they lay down, the men of the city, the people of Sodom, young and old, all gathered together from all sides and besieged the house.

19:5 He called Lot and said to him, "Where is anyone who has come to you this evening? Bring them out, and we will deal with them."

19:6 Lot went out to the crowd outside the door and shut the door behind them.

19:7 He said, "I beg you, my brethren, do not do this evil.

19:8 I have two daughters who have not come close to men. I beg you, I will bring them to you, and do to them whatever is good in your eyes, and do nothing to these men, since they have come into my house.

19:9 And they said, Get back, and they said, This man has come in and sojourns, and wants to be our judge; now we will do more harm to you than they do.

19:10 The men stretched out their hands and brought Lot into the house, and shut the door.

19:11 And the crowd outside the gate, great and small, and blinded their eyes, and they were weary to search for the gate.

19:12 The men said to Lot, "Is there anyone else that belongs to you? Bring your son-in-law, your children, or all who belong to you out of the city."

19:13 Because the outcry against them is great before the LORD, the LORD has sent us to destroy this place, and we will destroy it.

19:14 And Lot went out and told the sons-in-law who had been betrothed to his daughter, saying, "The LORD will destroy this city, so get up and leave this place." But the sons-in-law took it as a joke.

19:15 At dawn the angel urged Lot, saying, Arise, and take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest they perish together in the iniquity of this city.

19:16 But when Lot was delayed, the men took Lot's hand, his wife's hand, and the two daughters' hands, and led them outside the city, because the LORD had been kind to him.

19:17 After the men had brought them out, they said, "Flee and preserve life; do not turn around or remain in the fields, but flee to the mountains, lest they perish.

19:18 And Lot said to them, My lord, not so.

19:19 Your servant has found favor with you, and you have shown me great kindness to save my life, but I cannot run away to the mountains.

19:20 Behold, that city is near to flee, and it is small; let me flee there. Is it not a small city, and my life shall be preserved.

19:21 And he said to him, I will not destroy the city you speak of, since I have heard your wish in this matter as well.

19:21 Flee there quickly, for I can do nothing until you get there. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

19:23 The sun rose when Lot went into Zoar.

19:24 The LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah from heaven, the LORD.

19:25 He overthrew the cities and all the fields and all the people who lived in them, and all that was on the land.

19:26 Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.

19:27 Abraham got up early in the morning and came to the place where he stood before the LORD.

19:28 And he lifted up his eyes toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their fields, and saw the smoke rising like that of a kiln.

19:29 When God destroyed the cities of the field, when he overthrew the city in which Lot lived, he remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow.

19:30 Lot was afraid to dwell in Zoar, so he and his two daughters came out of Zoar and went up to the mountain, and dwelt in a cave with his two daughters.

19:31 The eldest daughter said to the younger daughter, "Our father is old, and there is no one in the world to be our match according to the world."

19:32 Let us drink and sleep with our father, and preach the race through our father.

19:33 And they drank with their father that night, and the eldest daughter went in and slept with her father, and the father did not realize that the daughter was lying down and getting up.

19:34 The eldest daughter said to the younger daughter the next day, "Last night I slept with my father. Tonight we have a drink with my father, and you go in and lie with us, and let us spread the race through our father.

19:35 And they drank to their father that night too, and the younger daughter got up and lay with her father, but the father did not realize that the daughter was lying down and getting up.

19:36 Lot's two daughters conceived by their father,

19:37 The eldest daughter bore a son and named him Moab, who is the father of the Moabites today.

19:38 The younger daughter also gave birth to a son and gave him his name, and he called his name Ben-ammi, who is the father of the Ammonites today.

20:1 Abraham moved from there to the south and dwelt in Gerar, between Kadesh and Shur.

20:2 And he called his wife Sarah his sister, so Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

20:3 That night God appeared to Abimelech in a dream and said to him, "You will die for this woman you have taken, for she is a man's wife.

20:4 Abimelech was not close to her, so he answered, ?ord, do you also destroy a righteous people?

20:5 Didn't he say to me, "This is my sister?" And the woman said, "She is my brother." And I have done this with a complete heart and clean hands.

20:6 And God said to him in the dream, "I also knew that you did this with the integrity of your heart, so I stopped you from sinning against me, for this is why I did not bring you near to a woman."

20:7 Now send the man's wife back, for she is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live; but if you do not send him back, you will surely die, you and all who belong to you.

20:8 Abimelech got up early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all about it, and when he heard them, they were very afraid.

20:9 Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, "Why do you come to us? What sin have I committed against you, that you and my kingdom have fallen into a great sin? You have done something unworthy of me."

20:10 And Abimelech said to Abraham again, In what opinion did you do this?

20:11 Abraham said, "There is no fear of God here, because I thought that a man might kill me because of my wife.

20:12 And yea, she was my half-sister, and she became my wife.

20:13 When God caused me to leave my father's house and go about it, I said to my wife, "From now on, wherever we go, you shall call me your brother, and this is the grace you will show me."

20:14 And Abimelech took sheep and cattle and slaves and gave them to Abraham, and returned Sarah his wife to him

20:15 He said to Abraham, "My land is before you; do as you see fit."

20:16 And he said to Sarah, "I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver, so that they may relieve your shame in the presence of many who were with you, and all your affairs have been settled for good."

20:17 And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his maidservant, and he brought them to fruition.

20:18 For the LORD had shut up all the wombs of Abimelech's house because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
