An exemplary family life (Genesis 7:1-5)
Noah was the grandson of Methuselah and the son of the devout Lamech. Lamech lived in desperate times. As the name suggests in 『Methuselah』, there was a flood judgment in the year Methuselah died.
The meaning of Noah is “comfort.” Indeed, Noah was a person who brought comfort to the people of that time. In that sense, Noah can be seen as a representative figure of Jesus who brings comfort and joy to life. Noah's family can be said to be an exemplary family that sets an example for the saints.
From the exemplary Noah's assumption, we can discover three surprising facts.
First, Noah's family was a family with good order (Genesis 6:8).
Noah was a person who received grace from God in three ways. He was righteous. In other words, he was a straight person in faith, life, and thought. He was a perfect man for his time. He was a man of moral holiness. He was a man who walked with God. He was a man with whom God was with him throughout his life.
Noah's family was a family with good family ethics and order, and the evidence is as follows. First of all, whenever Noah's name is mentioned, other members of his family are introduced together. (Genesis 6:18, 7:7,13, 8:16,18) Also, Noah's wives, sons and wives were It can be seen that the family's ethics are right (Genesis 7:7). They followed Noah's words and entered the ark.
The family is the first human organization created by God, and the more the family of saints, the more the ethics between husband and wife and between children should not be broken. In other words, when a couple loves each other and their children obey their parents, God is with them and blesses them.
Second, the whole family was a family with strong love and cooperation.
Noah's family put all their energy into building the ark and doing God's work.
A family's happiness lies in cooperating with each other. A home that supports each other is an ideal home. It took Noah 120 years to build an ark weighing about 32,800 tons, and this work would not have been possible without the cooperation of the entire family. It helped with the work of the husband, the work of the father, the work of the father-in-law. So, he said, “Everything was done.” However, that cooperation must be mutually beneficial not only in family life but also in life of faith, that is, in God's work.
Even if they want to serve and be loyal to the church, there are many cases where the members do not cooperate. Just as you cannot build the ark alone, you cannot be faithful to God's work and church service alone.
Dear readers, Today, we need strong cooperation to become a happy couple, a happy family, and a qualitatively growing church just like Noah's family by gathering will and working together.
Third, Noah's family was a family in which the entire family was saved.
It is indeed a blessing among blessings that Noah's entire family was saved. Noah's family soon became one in faith.
God made a covenant with Noah and his family.
Christianity is a covenant, a religion of covenant. The covenant God made with Noah was a covenant to save Noah's family, and the conditions of the covenant were Noah's righteousness and Noah's faith. Noah's faith had the following characteristics. Noah's faith received God's warning about things he could not see. In other words, it was faith that heard the word and put it into action. Apart from the Word, nothing can be done. It was also the faith of the act of preparing the ark and the faith of cooperation into entering the ark. All of Noah's family went into the ark according to the word, and they all came out together. I went in when the Lord said to go in, and I came out when the Lord said to come out. In other words, no one was saved without a dropout, so Noah was a successful family evangelist and an exemplary family leader.
Dear readers, Judgment Day is near. God's judgment begins with the house of God. (1 Peter 4:17) In times like these, we set up family ethics and cooperate with each other in the family to build a home kingdom and become a family in which the whole family participates in salvation. I pray for families to receive the blessing of salvation on the Day of Judgment just like the families of .
