Title: Gideon's dedication (Judges 06:1-40)
Contents 1. Gideon's calling
Gideon received a call from God while threshing wheat. God uses diligent workers.
Moses was also called while tending the flocks of his father-in-law Jethro (Ex 3:1-12)
In the New Testament, most of Jesus' disciples were called by the Lord while they were working.
People who are good at their own work can do well at other people's work as well. God sees the zeal and loyalty of those who work, and calls them and entrusts them with greater work.
2. Gideon's Dedication
To say that Gideon's offering was burned with fire means his devotion. (21)
Gideon feared the whole family of Abieser in Ophrah to dedicate himself according to the word of God
So the altar to the idol was destroyed at night.
According to God's word, Gideon burned the Ashera pole he had taken and sacrificed a 7-year-old bull as a burnt offering to forgive Israel's sins of betrayal for 7 years.
Therefore, if anyone wants to be used by God, he must first completely cleanse himself of all sins of the past.
3. Defeat idols
Overcoming idolatry is the faith of obedience that obeys the word of God.
When destroying idols, be prepared for persecution. (30)
Even when you deny the value of the world and establish spiritual values, you must be prepared for persecution.
Destroying idols is an act of faith that repents, surrenders, and trusts in the Lord.
4. Prayer for Victory
Gideon held on to the Word and prayed to defeat the enemy. (36) Here ‘as has already been said’
It means holding on to the Word and praying.
What you have already said is that the hand of Gideon will deliver Israel from the hand of Midian.
When Gideon prayed, he said, “As he has already said”, holding onto the Word and praying.
Our prayers should be according to the Word.
Because God's Word tells us how to pray.
Also, no matter how many times I pray in vain and repeat my thoughts according to my own thoughts without a word, it will only waste my time and energy.
Therefore, like the prayer of Jesus, we must work hard and pray with all our heart, and we must hold on to the Word and pray in the name of Jesus to accomplish the Lord's will.
