Title: Gideon Defeats the Midianites (Isaiah 09:4)
Content This text speaks of the joy of the Messiah's coming to this earth and foretells that the Jewish people will be freed from the Assyrian invasion. This verse is a parable of the work of salvation of Jesus Christ. This act of salvation was entirely supernatural. So it is similar to Gideon's deliverance of Israel from the Midianite army. With an army of 300 men, Gideon defeated the Midianite army with God's almighty power (Isaiah 7). There is a common principle between the fact that Christ saved God's people by supernatural power and the fact that Gideon saved Israel by the power of God.
1. Gideon was victorious with his gospel faith
(1) Gideon was a believer. We must remember that the leader of the Israeli army was a believer. Gideon was a mere farmer's son, but as a believer, he prayed a lot before God. Also, Gideon was a man who received the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. Gideon was inspired by the Holy Spirit to lead while praying, so he destroyed the Midianite army with a small army. Gideon was commanded by God and commanded the army, and the army was never harmed by obeying the commander. Gideon had only a small army, but he had the weapons of God. War requires good weapons, but tactical operations are more important. Gideon's operation was a mysterious one, because he prayed before God in faith and gained the wisdom of power through the Holy Spirit. Gideon's soldiers had trumpets and torches. When Gideon blew his trumpet once, the entire army united in action and marched to defeat the enemy. He also lifted up the torch that was hidden in the jar. The power of God lifted the torch high. He comes with those who believe in God.
