Glory of the martyrs (Matthew 5:10-12)
1. The suffering of the modern church is the suffering of the people.
With the establishment of a military dictatorship in El Salvador, South America, the people began to pick up trash.
In ten years of living, as many as 60,000 people died.
A conference of bishops was held at the time of killing anyone who resisted the regime, and Archbishop Romero held the conference.
“When the dictatorship becomes president due to fraudulent elections, you should go and pray for blessings.
Should I do it or not?
There were many, but Bishop Romero said, “I can’t go. Killing and robbing many good people,
"I can't pray for the holy bible for an unclean person who exploits."
Other bishops insisted that they should go or that it would be detrimental.
Bishop Romero said, “To those who exploit good people and disobey the will of God,
How can I bless you!" He refused and did not go.
'It is better to stand on the side of the poor and exploited and live for them.
I thought that the Lord's Church was the place to stand, and I went along the path of suffering with the people.
While performing Mass, he was shot and fell and was martyred for righteousness' sake by death.
To live for righteousness, the front and back must be clean.
In the same way, Korean society goes to breakfast prayer meetings and prays for the blessings of the corrupt government.
It's really unfortunate that there are elders in the church.
The military rulers who killed the good citizens of Gwangju and seized power
The labor shepherds, who have become dumb dogs for a hung table, have lost their conscience.
The righteousness of Jesus' cross should not be made in vain or the martyrdom of the apostles should not be dishonored.
Among the priests who challenged the unjust regime at the time, some fighting with guns
There was a protest with a gun to defend against an unholy killing group.
“We must love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us,” said Bishop Romero.
We can't shoot, even if we die by bullets. You can't swear even if you swear. Although we may be hated, we cannot hate. We can't hit even if we get hit. You can't spit even if you get spit on. This is our Christian way.” Bishop Romero died while protesting to the end in the spirit of non-violence and love.
Christians cannot use violence even if they will be persecuted for the sake of righteousness to the end.
It is the Christian position that violence cannot be used even for the sake of righteousness.
There are those who hold that even violence must be mobilized for justice.
The spirit of Jesus is to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.
2. Martyrdom is the Christian's greatest happiness.
When we believe in Jesus, sometimes we are reviled in order to live righteously,
physically persecuted and tortured.
In the Roman times of the early church, they were thrown into the lions' den to death and burned to death.
He tied them to his garden poles, anointed them with oil, and set fire to light the garden.
He became a pillar of fire, but he died singing praises despite being persecuted.
They were truly great people that the human mind could not have imagined.
The world of the catacombs testifies of it, and they do not have blades, nor flames in flames,
They are not afraid of the teeth of lions, they sing praises boldly, and celebrate the glory of martyrdom.
He was able to enjoy it because his heart was overflowing with the hope of resurrection.
(1 Peter 3:13) If ye do good with zeal, who will harm you?
But blessed are those who suffer for the sake of righteousness.
At that time, when Christians were persecuted for doing righteousness, they saw the glory of heaven.
happily fell asleep
Many saints of the early church suffered persecution, and that persecution became the glory of the martyrs. The martyr's glory refers to the blessings of the righteous that cannot be obtained on earth.
The glory of a martyr is not to die with groaning at death, but to die rejoicing.
It is said that the state of being happy even if you die because of Jesus is the glory of a martyr.
In Roman times, while searching for people who believed in Jesus, they entered a house and found twelve people.
I'm worshiping. I catch them in the cold winter, set them up and kill them.
He asked, “If you deny Jesus even now, I will spare you, and keep Jesus until the end.
If you say you will believe, I will throw you into that river." The eleven said, "The sky is bright.
The road is in front of me.... As he died singing hymns, one man changed his mind.
Then a Roman soldier saw a vision of twelve crowns descending from heaven and one ascending, and the soldier asked, “Angel, why does one crown rise again?”
The angel said, “It is an honor to be given to the martyr, and one man replies that he will deny it and take it back.
The soldier said, “Angel, I will take it for you, so give it to me. I will believe in Jesus." He confessed to Jesus and went into the water.
He died to receive the crown.
I pray in the name of the Lord that I will go before God and receive the crown of heaven while living my life of faith.
A Christian's greatest happiness and glory lies in being a martyr.
Martyrdom means dying on the cross with Jesus Christ and no longer living on my own.
Since we are talking about Christ living in us, a martyr is not a dying person, and a person who thinks of dying first on the path of martyrdom as a confession of faith of the living cannot be happy.
Until now, Christianity has glorified and referred to those who die in the name of Jesus as martyrs.
Martyrs were considered an unhappy life and were considered to be crowns worn after death, but martyrdom is not death, but life forever.
The martyrs are those who confess the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ as their life, and they are the living who have won the victory by the life of the resurrection in this world, so they confess the happiness of the living.
Only people come to the spirituality of the martyr.
The martyr, like the apostle Paul, crucified his passions and lusts and found himself in Christ.
Those who declared death are those who died to themselves and died to the world.
For these people, the food they eat is the sacrament, the clothes they wear are holy,
The house you live in is heaven, and the whole life you live becomes happiness.
7. The glory of the martyrs is the gift of the Holy Spirit.
There is a shameful salvation in the salvation we receive in the life of faith,
There is a glorious salvation, but a shameful salvation is the salvation of the wicked and lazy servants.
They are those who are convinced of salvation through faith and have lived in this world by their lusts.
Glorious salvation is a saint who suffered and lived for the glory of Christ.
It is salvation that comes to the saints who will receive the crown of glory from the Lord.
Can you be martyred by believing in Jesus? When I ask, many people honestly say they are not confident.
The answer is that it is true, but it can be done if the Lord is able to do it.
In fact, martyrdom is the work of the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 1:8) You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
It was said that you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth, but witness here means martyrs.
There are temporary martyrs and daily martyrs, but daily martyrdom is more difficult.
Jesus said if you want to come after me, you must deny yourself and take up your cross and follow me.
One's cross is one's own death, so every day martyrdom means dying every day.
Killing one's feelings in family life and following the will of Jesus is a small martyrdom.
A martyr is not that I live, but I die.
Jesus is alive and Jesus is speaking.
The Bible testifies that the prophets before you were persecuted in the same way.
A martyr is a prophet, and a prophet is a person who proclaims the word of God on behalf of God.
Jesus said that I also came as a prophet, but God
It was established, but martyrs speak of death.
When Jesus died and rose again, he spoke not with the mouth, but with the body.
A martyr is a person who declares his own death, and when a person who has died insults him,
Because my mouth is dead, I don't swear against it, but Jesus in me loves me.
Since the Word is proclaimed, true meekness is proclaimed.
We should be martyrs at work and martyrs at home.
To become a martyr before God is to kill oneself and testify of Jesus.
When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you kill yourself and reveal Jesus Christ.
You must be filled with the Holy Spirit to receive the beatitudes Jesus spoke of.
If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you can live poor in heart, live in mourning,
can live in peace.
In a harsh world, we have to live with compassion.
It is difficult to live with a pure heart in an evil generation.
Conflict and strife In a scary society that pursues only self-interest
How hard is it to be reconciled and for peace?
Our bodies and our minds are not able to love and pray for those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, who curse us and falsely speak evil words.
I have to move on to the world of the eighth day, and this is a life separate from the world.
The Beatitudes on the Mount are not the blessings of this earth, but the blessings of a different world.
Jesus has created a separate world for us through the blessing and resurrection of the cross.
He has sent the Holy Spirit to give us this blessing.
We must pray and have a wish to receive this blessing.
It is fallen Christians who do not seek the true blessing.
“O Holy Spirit, grant me the grace to live in the Beatitudes!”
