Date: April 3, 2011
Word: Jeremiah 18:1-4
Title: Go Down to the Potter's House
Contents :
To explain the text, no matter how much explanation, scolding, or enlightenment, Israel with a stiff neck did not repent and ran to their own path. God told Jeremiah the prophet to go down to the potter's house to give field training. When expressing, first of all, it begins with the Creator and the creature, and expresses it as a master-slave relationship, a father and a son, a shepherd and a sheep, etc. However, the text expresses the relationship between God and humans with a potter and clay.
What is a potter? A potter turns clay through a potter's wheel, beats, presses, and widens it to make the desired vessel. Calvin and Keil said that the potter refers to God and the clay refers to Israel, and Gray refers to the potter. It is said that God, clay, the people of Israel, and the wheelbarrow refers to the environment of life. Just as the wheelbarrow turns and makes earthenware, God makes Israel (the saints) into a beautiful vessel for the Lord through the course of life.
