Content: God's Grace of Atonement
Isaiah 43
1. The Affirmation of the Redemption Work to Be Reenacted (1-14)
① Reasons and grounds for salvation (1-7)
(1) Reasons for Salvation
Israel refused to obey God's law and was punished in return, but still in a state of spiritual ignorance. Nevertheless, the reason God repeatedly promises salvation to them is that Israel is a nation with a special relationship with God.(1)
(2) the basis of salvation
God is reminding us of the history of the Exodus by promising to gather His people from all over the world. Just as nothing could harm Israel leaving Egypt, the God of salvation will be with you.
② God as the only savior (8-14)
Isaiah is emphasizing that only God is the One who will fulfill the promises mentioned earlier.
43:11 “I am the LORD, and there is no savior but me”
2. New Salvation in the Future (15-28)
① New salvation to be fulfilled in the future (15-21)
The new salvation is so amazing that it destroys the memory of the Red Sea events that occurred in the past during the Exodus. In fact, the Red Sea incident is unprecedented in Israeli history. However, the new salvation is such an epochal and wonderful event that the Red Sea incident is forgotten.
The new salvation is a salvation that can be compared to a river that is newly formed in the desert. The presence of water in the wilderness means life. Therefore, new salvation can be seen as a new life through the redemptive work of Christ.
② The smear of sin that makes new salvation possible (22-28)
(1) Israel's sin (22-24)
did not call on God.
did not worship God.
full of sin
(2) The smear of sin (25-28)
God promises to wash away the sins of Israel who have sinned and not to remember their sins. The way out of sin is the way to restore our relationship with God, the way to salvation, and an event that can only be achieved through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
