Title: God's Chosen Man (1 Samuel 16:1-13)
Content Many Bible scholars say that God is the Lord of history.
The word “lord of history” means that God is in control of all events that occur in human history. This means that he is in charge of not only the history of the chosen people, but also the general history.
If you look at the contents of this text, it deals with a major historical event in which God appointed Saul as the first king of the nation of Israel and then abolished it and chose David to become king.
Then, God said that certain people were chosen and appointed.
1. In Proverbs 3:34, let go of the proud and humble.
First, what kind of person is a proud person? In the case of King Saul, he was a man who did not acknowledge God's grace, did not obey God's Word, and did not fear God. God has ignored the will of God to give grace to the humble. Pride eventually perishes.
We all know Haman well in the Old Testament book of Esther. He ran on the pole that Haman had built to put Mordecai on. These are the words of the proud.
Proverbs 16:18 says that pride is the spearhead of destruction. It is pride that easily perishes.
Second, what kind of person is a humble life? In 1 Samuel 16:11, David was a faithful shepherd. My faith was strong. A man who humbly repented with tears. I prayed earnestly. I sang a lot of hymns. David is a man who acknowledges God's grace and gives thanks. He is a man who fears God and lives in truth. Such a person seeks to acknowledge the sovereignty or claims of others while respecting others as superior to themselves. God forsakes the former and chooses the latter.
2. Heb 11:16 It is revealed that the people of unbelief are rejected and the people of faith are used.
First, what kind of person is a person of unbelief? In 1 Samuel 22:23, Saul disobeyed God. He is a person who thinks and lives from the center of himself, thinks from the center of people rather than God, and thinks and lives from the center of this world rather than heaven. Such a person is computational, utilitarian, and selfish.
Second, what kind of person is a person of faith?
In the case of David, he is a man who thinks and lives centered on God, a man who lives for the glory of God, and a man who thinks and lives centered on the kingdom of heaven. Such a person is altruistic, martyr, and sacrificial.
3. In Romans 12:11, God forsakes the lazy and uses faithful ones.
What kind of person is lazy in mission? In the case of Saul, he is a person who is stingy in investing time for God's work. He is also stingy with material investments that are used in God's work. He is a cunning person even when he dedicates himself to God.
If we look at David's case, he was a man who happily invested his time for God's work. He was a man who generously gave his material for the cause of God. He was a man who deeply devoted his body and life for the cause of God.
Such a person is a person who takes up the cross for the will of the Lord and for the glory of the Lord. God forsakes the disloyal and hires the faithful.
4. He forsakes those who commit sins, and uses people who repent and cleanse their sins.
What kind of person commits a sin? Like Saul, a person who rejects the word of God according to his own greed, a person who rejects the will of God for his own glory, and a person who receives the glory of God for the glory of this world. I'm going to be a covert person.
What kind of person is a person who cleanses himself? Like David, he repents of his sins and trusts in the merits of Jesus' blood. He hates sin and even sheds blood for it. People appointed by God are people who live according to the word of God and live according to their faith and conscience. Those chosen by God will become the protagonists of the history of fulfilling God's will and workers who create a shining legacy in human history.
