God's gaze
1 Samuel 16:6-13
X-rays are taken in hospitals because the human eye can only see outward appearances. People are accustomed to judging and evaluating based on their appearance. The same was true of the prophet Samuel. After Saul is abandoned by God, he visits the house of Jesse, following God's command to establish a second king over Israel. There he saw Eliab son of Jesse and judged that this man was the one who would become king of Israel (verse 6). But God intervenes. Don't look at his countenance and height. This is because people look at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. No matter how pious and experienced you are, you cannot escape the limits of your gaze as a human being. Even Samuel could not see inside a person. Among the sons of Jesse, a king over Israel should be appointed and anointed, but not Eliab the oldest. I saw the second, third, and seven sons in the rest of the house, but there was no one among them to make him king. However, God was waiting for the youngest, who could not attract anyone's attention.
When Samuel learns that the youngest son is out in the fields to tend sheep, he hastily summons him. When he arrived, his skin was red and his eyes were outstanding. The face was beautiful. In a word, it was not like an in-house ledger. Who would say that this man is the king who will stop the invasion of the Philistines and establish the country as a peaceful country? But the Word of God says - “This is the one who will be king” (verse 12). Samuel took oil and anointed him, and from that day on David was greatly moved by the Spirit of the Lord (verse 13).
God was watching the shepherd who was tending the sheep in a remote place that people did not see. God saw his big soul that was kept in his small body. People judge by the outside, but God looks at the heart. When God looks at people, he doesn't judge them by their outward appearance. It's not about looks or appearance that matters. Neither the environment nor the circumstances. You must become a person worthy of God's heart, not the eyes of men.
The characteristic of God's gaze is to see the future. He sees the future beyond the present. Did you anoint David so that he became king the next day? no. He will become king 10 years after that. But God recognized him when he was young and anointed him as king. How is this possible? Because he saw the future in him. David has now been anointed, and instead of becoming king right away, he has become a fugitive even though he has served. Anguish and physical pain awaited him. Wouldn't it have been better if the oil had been anointed after many years of trial and refinement?
God saw the future and chose him. Not only was he looking at his inner heart, but he was also looking into his future. In a way, he saw in advance what he would make his future and chose him.
God's eyes are unique. He sees things that do not exist as if they exist. He sees things that have not yet been accomplished. He designs the future and sees it as reality. You see things that people don't see. So God treats an ordinary shepherd as a king.
God's gaze planted the expectation of God in David's heart. Do not forget to become a king, cherish the moment of anointing, overcome difficulties, and walk the path of faith without compromising with the world. From that day forward, David was greatly moved by Jehovah's spirit. Because God chose David, he guaranteed victory on God's side. How deeply was the awareness that you were a man of God?
After that, David lives the future promised by God in reality. He was a shepherd that even his family did not recognize. was the youngest. Unlike Saul, he did not even have an appearance as a king. But I never thought of myself as humble. You have been recognized by God as the future king. It means to live with the eyes of a king. When will this be proven? It's time to meet Goliath. When David saw Goliath taunting Israel, David became excited and angry. He didn't think he was a little boy and dared to run away. Your thoughts and judgments as an anointed king come into play. The way you look at life is different from others.
God makes it clear that we will all reign as kings. You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). When there is pain in reality, when you feel tired and humble, when you have nothing in your hands, you must see yourself according to the gaze of God. The God who sees the future is making that future himself. This is because God's eyes make things happen as He sees them. Neither the parents thought that their son would become king. But God has chosen the poor. He told me to call him even if he was in the field. It is now a shepherd. But you made him king. Because he saw the king in him. The saints are children who are caught up in the possibility of God. We need to be conscious of the way God sees us. I hope you will realize God's gaze toward you and win.
