God's holy people /Deuteronomy 7:6-11

God told the Israelites to be careful when they entered the land of Canaan and lived. This is also what he is saying to the saints living in the world.

The reason Israel should not be assimilated with the Canaanite people is that they have become God's holy people, a holy people.

Likewise, the saints are teaching us to live in this world, but to live as a holy people, distinct from the world.

In that sense, the Lord has commanded the saints to become the light of the world and the salt.

Now, we need to look at how we live in the world and obey what God's Word tells us, not as He commands us.

1. The people sanctified by God

1) God made a holy people.

2 Corinthians 6:17, 18 7:1 "Therefore, says the Lord, come out from among them, and be separate from them, and do not touch the unclean thing, saith the Lord Almighty, that I have received you and will be fathers to you, and you will be children to me. Therefore, beloved, let us, having this promise, cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

G. Believers should stand in a place separate from the world.

N. The saints must not touch unclean things.

c. Believers must purify themselves.

2) God has chosen them to be the people of his inheritance.

G. Believers must be in God.

N. Believers must establish, serve, and expand the kingdom of God.

c. Believers must bear the fruits that God desires.

John 15:5 "I am the vine and you are the branches; if he in me and I in him, this man bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

3) God was pleased and chose him.

G. God chose in Christ before the foundation of the world.

Ephesians 1:4 "He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him in love."

N. God predestined it according to his pleasing will.

Ephesians 1:5 "He predestined us to be his sons through Jesus Christ according to his good pleasure"

c. God has chosen unconditionally.

Verse 7: “The Lord is pleased with you and has chosen you, not because you are more numerous than other peoples, but because you are the fewest of all.”

2. God's Redeemed People

1) God redeemed us through His love.

Verse 8, “Only because the Lord loves you.”

Isaiah 43:4 "Because I have counted you precious and honored and loved you, I will give you men in exchange for you, and peoples for your life."

2) God led us with the hand of power to fulfill the covenant.

Verse 8, “And he brought you out by his mighty hand to keep the oath he made to your fathers.”

Psalm 105:9-11 "This is the covenant he made to Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac, and the decree he made to Jacob, an everlasting covenant with Israel, saying, I will give you the land of Canaan to be your inheritance."

3) God redeemed us from the place of slavery.

G. Redemption in Egypt - Verse 8, "He redeemed you from the house of slavery from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt."

N. Redemption from Babylon - Isaiah 35:10 "The redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with song, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall find joy and gladness, and sorrow and groaning shall flee away."

c. Curse of the Law, Redemption from Sin - Galatians 3:13 "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree."

3. A people who should love God

1) We must know that God is Jehovah and is faithful.

G. You must know that you are God. - Almighty God who created and rules the heavens and the earth.

N. We must know that God is Jehovah. - Eternal and unchanging God who always fulfills his promises.

c. You must know that God is faithful. - The God who punishes good and evil according to the covenant.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 "The Lord is faithful and will strengthen you and keep you from the evil one."

2) God fulfills His covenant and shows mercy to those who love Him and keep His commandments.

G. We must know that God is Jehovah and that He is faithful, and we must love Him.

N. We must keep the commandments knowing that God is Jehovah and that He is faithful.

c. God will keep his covenant and show mercy to such people for thousands of generations.

Exodus 20:6 "I show kindness to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

3) God rewards those who hate him.

Verse 10: “He who hates him will repay him immediately and destroy him; the LORD does not delay with those who hate him; he will repay him immediately.”

Exodus 20:5 "You shall not bow down to them, nor serve them; I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, to pay for the sins of those who hate me, from father to son to the third and third generations."

Nah 1:2 "The LORD is a jealous and vengeful God; the LORD retaliates and is wrathful; he avenges those who oppose him, and his wrath is against those who oppose him.

Conclusion) God redeemed those who were slaves to sin and fell into the place of destruction and became a holy people. So we must love God and keep His commandments. Moreover, our salvation is the grace accomplished in Jesus Christ according to the will that was chosen and foreordained before the foundation of the world. Therefore, while living in this world, we must become God's separate and holy people and obey His Word. Indeed, even if they are weak and lacking in the world, they should at least become light and salt, showing the holy image of the saints. That is why we must always repent, beat ourselves up and submit to ourselves so that we can show a clean image of living according to the Word.

As Jehovah God, God is faithful, loving those who love him and obey his commandments, and he is gracious to a thousand generations. If you hate and oppose God, He will repay you, be angry, and destroy you. He even gave the grace of redemption by having his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, die on the cross instead. I pray in the name of the Lord that you will become a holy people who love, obey, and serve God and glorify Him.
