Title: God's Judgment (Zechariah 5:1-14)
The message of today's text is simple. God gave the prophet Zechariah two visions, but the message is one. Zechariah saw a large flying scroll (scrolling scroll) measuring 4.5 m by 9 m, with the words of God's warning written on it. The scroll can be thought of as the Bible in today's language. The angel is conveying in a vision God's words of warning to the people of Israel. He who steals and who swears falsely before God will be judged.
Another vision shows the ephah used by the Jews to measure grain. Speaking in Korean, it is similar to the Korean word dtbak. There is a woman in the ephah, an object most often used by the Israelites in their daily life, and you can think of this woman as Satan. Another two women appear, who can be seen as angels. They lift up the ephah and move it to the land of Shinar, where they are building a house for them. The land of Shinar is the site of the Tower of Babel incident in Genesis 11. It is the cradle of all kinds of sins. In the book of Revelation, Satan is ultimately imprisoned in the bottomless abyss, and when Jesus comes again, it is associated with the scene of falling into eternal hell.
The message is this. The guilty will be judged according to the sinful person, and Satan will be dealt with by God in the end. Needless to say, we live in many sins. Sin is a big problem for us. But our sins are forgiven because Jesus died on the cross for us. There is true forgiveness and restoration only in Jesus Christ.
I hope you will receive Jesus this morning with the heart of a child and have time to truly repent. So, I wish you a day of rebirth and victory.
