Title: God's Reversal Drama/John 5:1-9
Contents God's reversal drama/John 5:1-9
1 After that, there was a Jewish festival, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 There was a pool in Jerusalem, called Bethesda in Hebrew, by the sheep gate, and there were five porches.
3 There were many sick, blind, lame, and thirsty people lying in it (waiting for the water to move)
4 For angels sometimes come down to the pool to stir the water, and whoever enters first after it is stirred will be healed of any disease.)
5 There was a sick man 38 years old.
6 When Jesus saw that he was lying down, he knew that he had been ill for a long time and said to him, “Do you want to get well?
7 The sick man answered, "Lord, when the water rises, there is no one to put me in the pool; while I am going, another goes down first."
8 Jesus said to him, Get up, pick up your bed, and walk.
9 Immediately the man was healed, took up his bed, and walked, for it was a sabbath day.
------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------
There are three things that people need to live in the world.
1) Health. Losing your health is actually the same as losing your life.
2) Money. Especially in today's capitalist society, being penniless means death.
3) Love. Losing love means that there are no people around and that you are lonely/ and that you have lost the value and meaning of life.
--------------------
But the 38-year-old sick man by the pool of Bethesda who appears in today's text/ did not have these three things at all.
1) I had no health. If this man is 50, it means he has been lying in bed since he was 12. If this man is 40, he has been living like this since he was 2 years old.
2) There was no money. Having been ill for 38 years, he must have spent all his money. He must have tried every possible way to get better. All the good legislators would have been there.
This is very similar to the situation of a woman who had suffered from hemorrhage for twelve years. [Matthew 5:26] <I suffered a lot from many physicians, / and all that I had was wasted/ without any benefit / / It only got worse. You can see it around.
3) There was no one around. To say that there were no people means that love was lost.
The family I loved had all left/ I was alone by the pond, guarding the shores of the pond.
-----------------------------------------
This is the story from verses 1 to 5 of today's text. However, in verse 6 and below, perfect reversals, miracles, and changes are taking place. Today, through this dramatic event, let's look at two lessons God gives us.
------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------
1) Jesus is looking for “a person who will not give up hope until the very end” (verses 4-5)
A mysterious legend has been handed down at Bethesda Pond. What are you talking about? <Verse 4 This is because angels sometimes come down to the lake to stir the water, and whoever enters first after it stirs is healed of any disease.> It is a very mysterious pond.
There are many places in Korea that contain such legends. If you go to Yongmunsan Mountain, there is a 1500-year-old ginkgo tree / There is a legend that if you go around this tree three times/ you will die freshly without suffering when you die. There is also a cave in the Wailing Wall of Israel with a large rock 50 m long and 600 tons in weight. There is a legend that if you pray in front of it, your prayers will be answered. So it is said that it is the place where Jews want to pray the most.
--------------------
However, the problem is that the miracle like the legend of the Bethesda Pond actually happened/ or is it just a tale? But the 38-year-old sick man said that the story was a lie / and he was holding onto a glimmer of hope that he would get better. that he didn't give up.
----------------------------
Even if that story is true/ the odds of a 38-year-old sick man surviving are like the eye of a needle. It could be a competition of 500;1, or it could be a competition of 1000;1. Guys, when an angel stirs the water/ Who has the highest probability of being healed? First of all, the limbs are intact and the person can see forward. Among them, people with minor diseases such as athlete's foot, cold, skin disease, sinusitis, etc. would have jumped in first. But the 38-year-old sick man is now lying motionless. It cannot be healed unless someone throws it into the pond. But who is busy taking care of his illness and his family/ who will take care of a 38-year-old patient? A 38-year-old patient would be correct to say that it is almost incurable.
Nevertheless, he does not give up hope until the very end, and he does not give up hope and is lying on the shore of the pond. It is that the struggle of the sick man is so pathetic and imaginary that it brings tears to his eyes. The Lord had compassion on him and came to him.
--------------------------
Look at the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years. <Matthew 9:20 A woman who had been suffering from bleeding for twelve years came behind Jesus and touched the edges of his cloak.> His unwavering faith that he would come back and touch even Jesus' cloak moved him to be healed.
Also look at the figure of the Syrophonic woman. <Mat 15:27 The woman said to him, “Lord, it is right, but even dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” If only the daughter is healed, she will be treated like a dog and will receive the favor of crumbs. It was her unremitting struggle that cured her daughter's illness. The Lord is coming to such a person.
Of course, like these two women, the 38-year-old sick man/ did not specifically seek Jesus, / but seeing his never giving up heart and not giving up hope/ the Lord came to him.
------------------------------------------------------------ ----
----------------------
The gist of that column is this. If she really believed in the existence of heaven and hell and that God exists, it would mean that she was not desperate enough to give up her life. Even though the saints may have a moment of discouragement, there is no eternal despair. It's a word that makes sense.
--------------
Ladies and gentlemen, no matter how desperate we are, are we as desperate as this 38-year-old man? He, who had been sick for 38 years, did not give up hope/that we cannot despair enough to give up our lives/ that we believe in Almighty God. That we can never give up. It is that God does not give up the faith of those who do not give up and rush to Him in vain.
-------------------------------------
Are there any diseases or problems in your life that have plagued you for a very long time now? If you have not given up hope/ I hope you keep in mind that now is the time for the Lord to come, and it is a time of reversal and miracles in Bethesda that the Lord will work.
---------------------------
2) When Jesus comes, the situation will end (verses 8-9)
In verses 6-9, there is a very simple conversation between a 38-year-old sick man and Jesus. <Jesus: Do you want to get well?' (verse 6) Sick: When the water rises, there is no one to put me in the pool, so someone else goes down. (verse 7) Jesus: Pick up your bed and walk (verse 8). > That's what the conversation is all about. I see a disease that has been attached to that person for 38 years / is cured very simply.
-----------------------------------------------------
Here we discover an important truth.
How could a 38-year-old disease be cured so easily? Because Jesus came to him. Because Jesus met him. Because Jesus intervened in the matter.
---------------------------
Ladies and gentlemen, the way people in the world solve some life problems/ is very complicated and difficult. You have to look for people, ask questions, and put all your time, money, and energy into it. Still, there are many unresolved problems in life. There are still problems that have not been solved even after 38 years.
However, the solution to the problem of us believers in Jesus is very simple. All you have to do is touch Jesus. It is only when the grace of God comes upon you. It means that Jesus can come to me. Therefore, when we encounter problems and difficulties/ it is the fastest way to solve them/ to run straight to Jesus with them. Because Jesus does not have any difficult problems. <Genesis 18:14 'Is there anything too difficult for the Lord?'> Our Jesus is a good person who does not get tired of visiting us dozens of times a day with small problems. The problem is that we are not blessed because we have no one from the Lord.
-----------------------------------
And when we pray to Jesus, there is no need to guess in advance, and in most cases, we do not need to guess, and in most cases, <the problem in my life will be solved, the process will be like this>. The only thing we believe and are certain of/ is that if I bring the problem to Jesus, the situation will be over, and when Jesus comes to me/ the problem is simply solved.
It's like a little child turning on a light. When a child turns on the light/ he knows only one thing. Turn on the switch and the light will come on. There is no need to know how the electrical wiring is / and how electricity is developed / to reach the consumer. Likewise, the only thing we can be sure of in the face of problems/ is that if we entrust our problems to Jesus/ Jesus will solve them in some way. <How and how can this complicated problem be solved?> There is no need to worry about that. <John 14:6 Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.> That Jesus is not only the way of salvation/ but the answer to all life's problems/ You must unconditionally believe. is.
------------------------------------------------------------ ----
Now, have any of you lost your health? Invite Jesus into your life. Have any of you gone penniless? Take the matter to Jesus. Are you lonely and lost in love, with no one to help? Meet Jesus. There are answers, blessings, miracles, and healing.
---------------------------
Christianity is a miracle religion. It is a religion with dramatic life-changing twists. B.C. and A.D. are clearly distinct religions. Believe that these miracles, reversals and changes will happen when you meet Jesus, and I hope that you will become believers who put all the burdens of all my trials and tribulations on the Lord.
Greetings to each other <The situation is over today>
-----------------------------------------------------
I will conclude the words
You taught me two lessons today.
1) Jesus will come to those who do not give up hope until the end
The 38-year-old patient had a completely immobile body/ but never gave up on life, and never gave up hope. There is no eternal despair for believers who believe in Almighty God. Bethesda's reversals and miracles are always ready as long as we don't give up
2) Even if it is a 38-year-old problem, the situation will be over when Jesus comes.
Our solution to the problem is simple. You just have to invite Jesus. Jesus can touch you. When Jesus comes to our problem, it is easily solved.
