Title: God's Way (Joshua 01:1-2)
Content 1. God looked at the disposition and temperament of man.-God had already prepared Joshua 40 years ago. Ex. 17:14 He knew Joshua's military insight (Ex 32:17) Unselfish disposition (Jos 19:49,50) Distributing the land/requesting the hill country of Ephraim Showed strong personal influence (Joshua 24:31)
Through fellowship with Moses, he came to know God's providence, and in Moses' victory he had confidence in God/Battle of Rephidim. God strengthened his leadership in his relationship with him.
-Joshua 1) did not agree with the foolishness of the people. (Ex 32:17) 2) He calmed the people who were agitated by the 12 spy reports. 3) He was publicly praised by Moses. (De 31:7,8)
2. God's plan continues to advance. Moses could not enter Canaan. It was a stumbling block in leading the people to Canaan.1) It was suitable to go before Pharaoh, but Joshua was more suitable than Moses to enter Canaan. 2) Moses was suitable to lead the people in the sea and the wilderness, but Joshua was more suitable to conquer the land of Canaan. 3) Moses was fit to lead Israel out of Egyptian slavery, but Joshua was better at organizing them into a united nation.
3. God accomplishes what a person with superior ability fails through through a person who is inferior. God knows what only a man can do.-Joshua for the conquest of Canaan-Apostle Peter for the preaching of Pentecost-The versatile Paul for the Gentile missions-Shadrach Meshach Abednego is God in the Plains of Dura. In order to change the heart of King Artaxerxes, God uses Nehemiah as someone who can use him for his ministry.
1. God gives worthy qualities to those whom he calls.
2. God grants authority and recognition to those whom he has called.
3. God makes those whom he calls triumph over all things.
4. God gives them possession of the product of their victors.-He was Moses' longtime servant. But he made him see the glory. Jesus Christ came into this world as a servant, but God used him up high.-The qualification to rule is those who have learned to obey.-Joshua knew Moses very well as his successor.
