Title: God's Word to Man
(Explanation to Hebrews 2)
God's Word to Man
(Hebrews 1:1-3)
Hebrews is divided into two divisions. One is the doctrinal part and the other is the practical part. The doctrinal part is from 1:1-10:18 and the singal part is from 10:19-13:25. The purpose of our study of Hebrews is to know Jesus Christ in detail and in depth. For Christians to know Christ is the closest way to receiving grace, and it is the quickest and right way to receive God's blessings for us in Christ.
1. God's Word to Man
Verse 1 refers to the words God spoke to mankind. God gave His Word to man through two means. One is through the prophet. So, at the beginning of verse 1, it says, “Once upon a time the prophets spoke to our ancestors in various parts and in many ways. And he said that the other means was given through his son. Verse 2 says, “In these last days he has spoken to us through his Son.” We call the age in which He spoke to us as prophets as the Old Testament age, and the age in which He spoke through His Son as the New Testament age.
2. God Spoken as a Prophet and Son
(1) He said that he spoke as a prophet. The word "prophet" means "a prophet inspired by 'Neviim'." Prophecy does not come from the thoughts of men or the judgments of men. It comes only by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. A prophet is a person who is moved by the Holy Spirit and can't bear to tell the mystery that God has revealed. Of course, it is because we have received a command to preach from God.
In Exodus 4:15, God said to Moses, “Speak to Aaron, and give his mouth Instead, you will be like God to him.'
When God said that Moses and Aaron would be with them, this means that the word of God would be in their mouths. In this way, prophets are people who have been revealed to God's secret things. Amos 3:7 says, “The Sovereign Lord will do nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.” God first showed the prophets what he was doing, and commanded them to speak in the name of the Lord, so that all the people could hear them. The word spoken through the prophets is an indirect communication of God. God's word of communication ended from the time of Adam to the time of John the Baptist.
(2) Please see verse 2 below. “In the last days of all these days he has spoken to us through his Son.” “The end of all these days” means the last days. The history from the time when God sent his Son Jesus Christ to the time when the Lord returns as the Judgment Lord is called the last days. These last days have a different meaning from the end times spoken of in the Bible. The last days refer to all generations until the Second Coming of the Lord, and the end refers to the time of the Lord's return, that is, the last period of mankind.
At the end of all these days, God has spoken to us through His Son. That Son is Jesus Christ. John 1:1 tells us that the Son of God is the Word. Jesus is the one who was born as a man when these words became flesh. Therefore, every word of his mouth is the word of God.
God is a Trinity. Therefore, the word of the Father is also the word of God. The word of the Holy Spirit is also the word of God. Also, the words of the Son, Jesus Christ, are the words of God. Every word that Jesus spoke to his disciples and crowds while he was alive, not a single word, without exception, is the word of God.
Here, then, why did God speak to man? Humans became enemies with God through sin. The penalty for sin is death, and death means hell. Now there is no way for them to turn from their sins and be saved. But God loves these people. He does not want them to die in their sins. God has a burning love to save these sinners and is calling humans.
God has a great and majestic plan to forgive man's sins and to give man salvation. In order to communicate God's plan to humans, God spoke to sinners through the prophets in the Old Testament and His Son in the New Testament era.
