Title: God's Wrath/Numbers 14:11-35
Content 21. Wrath of God
Numbers 14:11-35
The story continues with a scene where God appears when the people stone Joshua and Caleb to death. “How long will this people despise me? Have you forgotten all the miracles I have shown you until now? How long will you not trust me? .” All the people are afraid and trembling when they hear the wrath of God. At this time, Moses risked his life again and resolutely stood up and offered an intercession.
“God, did you not lead this people by your power in the land of Egypt? And in the wilderness by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, did you not send manna and quail to feed us? The Gentiles know, what would they say if they killed everyone here? Perhaps they would say that God didn't have the power to lead them to the land of Canaan, so he killed them all in the wilderness. So please forgive us our sins and have mercy on us. Isn't God slow to wrath and infinitely merciful?"
God, who heard Moses' earnest intercession, said: "good. I will hear your prayers, and I will not destroy them all. But those who have seen my glory and miracles, who have tested me ten times, and have not heard my voice and complained and grumbled, will by no means enter the land of Canaan. Only Joshua and Caleb will enter the land of Canaan, and all the rest will die. But your children shall bear your sins and wander in the wilderness for 40 years, until your corpses are consumed.”
We should pay attention to the words that God said after hearing Moses' intercession and saying that He would not give the Promised Land even though He did not punish them immediately. Have you ever failed because you never trusted God? Wait for the time. Don't be in a hurry. God will never let you down.
