Title: God Heals / John 5:2-9
Content I. See yourself right (2-5)
For God's healing, we must learn to see ourselves rightly. This 38-year-old patient was even more desperate and frustrated when he saw other patients go in and heal first every time the water in the pool of Bethesda moved.
As a result, he became sick and exhausted both in heart and soul. He is a real patient who is sick not only physically but also spiritually. Therefore, this person must have a clear awareness of “I am a patient who has not been healed for 38 years.”
You need Jesus only when you see yourself like this. When I see myself right away and show myself as I am before the Lord, there is room for the Lord to work.
II. Craving yourself (6-7)
Jesus didn't just come to a 38-year-old patient and lift him up. He asked the lying patient if you would like to get better. When Jesus came to the 38-year-old patient, he saw him lying down and knew he had been ill for a long time.
The Lord, who is well aware of the patient's condition, asked him if he wanted to get better, so he wanted to see his heart. It is whether there is a sincere hope for healing in your heart. God intervenes when we ourselves long for healing. Even though I don't want it, God is not unconditionally working.
When we earnestly desire with our hearts, there is no limit to God's grace and power.
Ⅲ. Be confident in the power of Jesus Christ (8-9)
Seeing the 38-year-old patient's longing for healing, Jesus tells him to get up, pick up your bed and walk. He did it in a completely different way from what the 38-year-old patient expected to be healed by putting him in a pond when the water was frozen.
He tells the patient who has not stood up for 38 years to get up. And he tells you to pick up your bed and walk. You are commanding us to do what we cannot do. Sometimes the Lord commands that which is impossible with the thoughts and calculations of man. Then you should be able to obey.
For this One who speaks to me is the transcendent Lord who makes the impossible possible and can do all things.
