Title: God in Providence/Jeremiah
Jeremiah is the prophet who delivered the message of judgment and destruction. He is a prophet who suffered the rebellion and disobedience of the people, and suffered for the sins of the people's disobedience. The king of Israel wanted to hear the voices of the flatterers around him rather than hearing the voice of God. Although he had heard through the prophet that it was clearly not God's will, he wanted to form an alliance with Egypt to oppose Babylon. But it was an illusion. Babylon was stronger than Egypt, and Israel was eventually attacked by Babylon. After the siege of Jerusalem, Zedekiah began to go to the prophet Jeremiah, who was imprisoned in the court of the demonstrators, and pray for him, and asked if there was any way for Judah to be saved.
But the Prophet's answer was clear. The answer was that Judah would perish. He didn't shorten the message. But the Prophet did something incomprehensible. I bought my nephew's land in due course. This was an act according to God's command. An action like this has important implications. Therefore, we can draw some important lessons from this text.
1. God says that it is futile to depend on the things of the world without relying on God.
Zedekiah did not depend on God but listened more to people. He was deceived by the claims of the anti-Babylonian faction and turned to Egypt, which had no power to help Judah at the time. God clearly told him not to depend on a prince who had no power to help, but he listened to people and turned to Egypt. This was a false hope. Egypt did not come. On the contrary, they also lost the battle to Babylon. Therefore, Zedekiah made a decisive mistake as king of the royal line of David. The king did not rely on God and committed a great sin that led the people to destruction.
What do we depend on in times of trial now? Rather than relying on God, do you not try to rely on the power of the world or people you see right away? However, we must keep in mind that the road is a road to destruction and a road to failure. The only one we can rely on is God. God tells us to obey even when we do not understand.
At the moment of destruction, God commanded Jeremiah, who was imprisoned in the court of the guards, to "buy a field." Now, the prophet Jeremiah is imprisoned in the courtyard of the demonstrators. And the city of Jerusalem is besieged by the Babylonian army. The people began to starve to death, and now destruction was imminent.
But God told the prophet Jeremiah to buy his nephew's land according to the due process. Perhaps an ordinary person would have ignored God's word by asking, "God, is this the law or what you did?" But the prophet Jeremiah obeyed. It contains God's faithful promise of restoration. Jeremiah could not understand right now, but with the eyes of faith he saw God's promises and God's faithfulness to come true beyond judgment and obeyed. And his faith and obedience brought the hope of salvation to God's people.
Sometimes people do not know what to do when faced with difficulties. What's more, when someone gives you advice, they don't listen if it doesn't make sense to them. But God sometimes tells us to rely entirely on His promises, even if we don't understand them. And to those who thoroughly believe and rely on the word of promise, God grants the faithfulness of his providence.
3. It says that God sees our obedience and shows His faithfulness to the end.
When we saw God's faithfulness with the eyes of faith and obeyed the words we could not understand, God's faithfulness was finally realized for the people of Israel. Therefore, through this text, God says that God's faithfulness will be 'finally' and 'for sure' fulfilled to those who look at God's promises with the eyes of faith and obey and rely on them to the end. The prophet Jeremiah looked to God's salvation beyond judgment with the eyes of faith.
He looked with the eyes of faith to see God's mercy behind His just judgment. He looked at the work of God's mercy and restoration behind God's wrath with the eyes of faith. So I just obeyed God's command, which I couldn't understand.
Even today, God shows His mercy, mercy, and faithfulness to those who do not give up their faith in Him. He reveals the faithfulness of God by creating works that the world cannot understand.
Our pain and trials do not matter. The question is whether I believe in God's faithfulness even in adversity. The Lord who stands beyond the troubles, do we have the faith to see the Lord who stands beyond the problems? The events that are happening right before our eyes may not be true. If we rely only on the Lord who is beyond the events that are happening before our eyes, we will be able to experience the faithfulness of the Lord every day and every moment.
