Sermons for Preaching

Title: God, my God/Exodus 20:1~3

Contents God, my God/Exodus 20:1~3

Key Verse: “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3).

Word: The Ten Commandments appear twice in the Bible. One is Exodus 20, where we meditate today, and the other is Deuteronomy 5. In the book of Exodus, it was spoken to the Egyptian generation of the Israelites on Mount Sinai (Sinai), and in Deuteronomy, it was transmitted to the generation of the wilderness from the east side of the Jordan (Jordan) river.

The Ten Commandments are the pillars in the life of a believer. In opening the Ten Commandments, God first makes clear who you are. “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.” It means the One who saved the lives of the people of Israel. The first ‘commandment’ is recorded in earnest in verse 3, and before that, verse 2 is talking about the ‘grace’ that God has given.

When you receive grace and feel the emotion, the commandment is not a burden to be forced, but a devotion that comes from the joy of love. When grace is presupposed, the commands are not the bonds that bind us, but the wings that set us free and soar high into the sky. Some people have a hard impression of the Ten Commandments, but they are not.

Grace and commands cannot be separated from each other. Commandments without grace feel like bondage and burdensome debt. However, on the other hand, if you realize grace and experience the thrill, but do not properly know the commands of God's Word, it is easy to indulge in self-indulgence. It's like a grandson holding his grandfather's beard because he loves his grandson so much. Grace comes first, followed by obedience to the commands.

The foundation of the Christian life is to realize that God has saved us from sin and death through the cross of Jesus Christ and to be grateful for this grace. The Christian home must be built upon the foundation of this crucifixion.

In the 18th century, during the pietist movement, the king of Prussia visited Halle, the center of the pietist movement. I asked a man who was working hard. “How much money do you earn for working like that?” “The fact that I can work like this for the Lord is the highest pay I get,” the king lamented. “I do not have such a servant!” Those who live in admiration for grace are as follows. The Ten Commandments begin with excitement. God, my God!

Prayer: May I live each day with the inspiration of grace. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
