Title: God of Mercy (2 Samuel 24:18-25)
[2 Samuel 24:18-25]
In Samuel 1, a great prophet named Samuel was born through Hannah's tearful prayer, and the story of a great king named David unfolds like a drama and ends. Chapter 24 tells the story of having Joab take a census from Dan to Beersheba for nine months. This became a sin before God, and for three days God's wrath came, and 70,000 people died. In verse 17, King David, who was in great shock, prayed earnestly to God. 17 When David saw the angel attacking the people, he immediately called to the LORD, saying, I have sinned and have done evil, but what has this flock done? He stopped the angel who was beating the people, and saw this angel standing on the threshing floor of Araunah. Looking at this situation, we want to find out what King David and we need to realize.
First, the hands of the people are in the hands of the leaders.
The life and death of the people depend on the leader. David repented of this before God. It is the sin of not trusting in God, the sin of wanting to show off through the census despite God's presence, and repentance while realizing that you took life lightly. I am deeply repenting. Ladies and gentlemen, we are all called to be leaders. Please pray earnestly before God, believing that you have been called to be a leader who lives or dies because of us at home, at work, and in your department.
Second, I realized the heart of God.
Verse 16 [The angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, but the LORD was sorry for this plague, and said to the angel who was destroying the people, It is enough; now, put your hand away." Then the angel of the LORD was standing by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. Jira]
He hates iniquity and judges, but He is merciful. When he saw the angel standing with his hands stopped, he realized God's pity on him, and when he heard the command to build an altar through the prophet Gad, King David realized the mercy that comes after judgment. The people are punished, but David realizes that God's heart is hurting just as a father scours his children and his heart aches, and offers a sacrifice of peace. I want this morning to be a morning when you look back and realize in deep prayer what God wants in your suffering.
Third, worship God with a priceless sacrifice.
I hope that the work of restoration will be with you by offering your sincerity to God who saved us at a great price.
1. Since you have established me as a leader, please have mercy on me and pray for recovery.
