Title: God Who Dos Good

Text: Proverbs 16:1-9, Romans 8:26-30

What all other religions and cultures have in common is that the will of heaven is beyond human understanding. So, there is this expression in the description of Saeongjima. ‘Inscrutable are the ways of Heaven’. The problem is our reaction to them. fate theory? Another choice? It teaches you the importance of daily life. The lessons the Bible, the Word of God, give us are even more amazing. The Old Testament text (Proverbs 16:1-9) tells us to entrust our lives completely to God (verse 3). Because there is the best life. We are talking about God who guides our steps (verse 9). That God is all-powerful and omnipresent (Psalm 139:1-24). So the life entrusted to him becomes the best. It is a grace that is accomplished by the One who gave us a longing for eternity (Eccl. 3:11).

Today's New Testament text (Romans 8:26-30) is Romans 8, the summit of soteriology. It is the victory of God's love for us. For better understanding, we divide it into two parts. 1) Living in the Holy Spirit (1-17) and 2) The hope of creation and the certainty of salvation (18-39). If we were to choose one verse from each of the two divisions, it would be verses 11 and 28. “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you” (verse 11). “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose” (verse 28). That goodness is the culmination of God's love, so that we become like Jesus (29, 30).

The present sufferings of Christ's people are essential to future glory (v. 18). The prelude to the triumph of love (31-39) is a three-step gradual lament. These are ‘the groan of creation’ (19-22), ‘the groan of the children of God’ (23-25), and ‘the groan of the Holy Spirit’ (26,27). But this groan is not a cry of despair. It is labor pain for childbirth. This is the prelude to victory. That is why those who live in the Holy Spirit say, ‘Rejoice always! Pray without ceasing! In everything give thanks!’ (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) without hesitation, say ‘Amen’. What a wonderful grace that God made for us before all human decisions. Because this way of salvation is so sure, this glorification is clearly the future in the future tense, but he speaks in the past tense. “He also glorified” (Romans 8:30b).
