Title: God Who Gives Rest

Content R>

Old Testament R>

2. On the seventh day God finished what he had been doing, and he rested on the seventh day from all that he had been doing.

3. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, for on that day he rested from all that he had created and made.

new testament

9. Wherefore, a sabbath remains for the people of God.

10 He who has already entered into his rest rests from his work, just as God rests from his work.

11 Therefore, let us make every effort to enter that rest, least anyone fall from that example of disobedience.

God who gives rest

Hebrews 4:9-11

There is a thing called workaholic. A person who is addicted to work, such as alcoholism. It is also an act of trying to fill one's void by overworking. But God tells us to work hard when we work, and to get healthy rest when we rest. Why is rest important to us?

1. Rest is important for a balanced life. We live in an action-oriented world. There is always something to do and no time to rest. But God Himself teaches that rest is proper and right. Our recess time refreshes the time we serve.

2. Rest is important for worship. The commandment to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy is found in the Ten Commandments. The Sabbath is a day set aside for rest and worship. God commanded the Sabbath because humans need unhurried worship and weekly rest.

3. Rest is in God's ultimate plan. God rested on the seventh day, not because he was weary, but to mark the completion of creation. God was very satisfied with the perfect world. Rest is a foretaste of the eternal joy we will enjoy when creation is renewed and restored.

You cannot rest without faith. If you do not believe in God, you cannot enjoy true rest even if you rest. Let us trust that God will provide for our needs. Trust that God is the giver and sustainer of our life, and let us cast all our worries on him. At that time, by practicing rest, we can free ourselves from the slavery of greed and taste the joy of eternal rest in advance.
