Title: God Who reigns forever.
Contents Hymn 508 “I want you to be like the Lord” Chapter 511 “I love Jesus my Savior more”
Saints whose hope is in God! In Psalm 146, the poet records the blessings that those who put their hope in God will enjoy. If you could sum up your life over the past year into one poem, what kind of psalm would it come out of? There are people who have fulfilled the will of the New Year in the Lord, and there are people who end the year with regret. The coming new year gives us new expectations and hopes. As God's reign continues, believers can always stand on the starting line anew. He can't have frustration without an exit. He finally renews his hope by shouting ‘Hallelujah’.
First, the poet does not depend on people (3,4).
He wants his life to be full of praise. He invites people to praise (1,2). The poet says that no man can be his help or savior. Everyone in life returns to dust when their breath is exhausted (4). Life on earth is short and uncertain. No man has the power to secure his life or the life of another.
Second, the poet leans on God, who is the true object of hope (5-9).
God is the hope of the righteous. God is the oppressed, the hungry, the imprisoned, the blind, the alien, the widow and the orphan. But he perverts the way of the wicked. In other words, it thwarts and nullifies all the efforts of the wicked. Finally, the poet proclaims the eternity of God's reign.
Dear saint! Psalms 146-150 are the so-called 'Hallelujah Psalms'. It is because Hallelujah appears at the beginning and end of these psalms. The poet praises God as Creator and Savior. This psalm indirectly reflects the message of the prophets. He wants a just society of a just God. Freedom, justice, and peace are the precious values that saints seek as light and salt in this world. Therefore, let's put our hope in God and live as children of God. -Amen-
