Title: God Who Sent His Only Begotten Son
God who sent his only begotten son
“In this was manifested in us the love of God, that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him” (1 John 4:9).
I. Text Commentary
II. God who sent his only begotten son
In eternity the Son was begotten of the Father. All the history of redemption in the Bible forms the core of the history of creation, and the core of this history of redemption is the incarnation of the Son of God, who came to this world in a human body. Today's Bible talks about this incarnation in two ways.
A. The manifestation of God's love
First, Jesus Christ's appearance in the world in a human body was an event that showed what God's love is. From the time God created man, He gave the intellect and heart to know God's love in the heart of man, and He also gave him the will to live according to that love's will.
Because man fell and the world became dark because of sin, God's wonderful love began to seep into the people of Israel like a river. That is why Jesus Christ was with many prophets and many servants of the Lord before He came to this world in a human body. They prophesied what God's love and mercy were, and spread God's wonderful messages of salvation in the history of Israel, but they could not fully demonstrate God's love. He has shown how much God loves Israel in history. However, the Israelites lacked the faith to interpret and understand God's love. So, he himself could not fully understand God's love, so it was not enough to prove to many people the wonderful love and mercy of Jehovah God.
B. Trying to save humans
1. Signs of Death
Those who die in the body rot in the body, but death in the soul does not mean that the soul is motionless, but the works of death. By referring to this, the Bible speaks of the works of death. Because the world today is full of the energy of death, the deeds of death are being revealed. This is the trend of the world just seeing God, in which all the energy of death enters and completely loses all human will to follow all these things, whether morals, values, good or evil.
These dreadful signs of death abound in the church as well. When the life of God disappears, the church members become rough, and they become godless people who do not care about God. That is why it causes numerous disputes in the church, neglects God's important missions, and disturbs the order of the Lord's church in blood and arrogance. These self-absorbed members of the church are showing signs of death.
2. To give life
III. Jesus came in the flesh
The Lord came down to this world in a human body to be with us and be in us forever. So whoever is in the fulness of Christ Jesus, whoever lives in complete submission to the gracious reign of Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit, becomes the fuller of the life of God. For us, the Lord's coming in a human body is a channel of infinite blessings, but God's coming down to this world in a human body is an infinite shame for Him. When he was nailed to the cross, hammered, and whipped all over his body, the image of God could not be read in any corner of him. The prophet Isaiah had prophesied, saying, "We thought that he was chastised, smitten by God, and afflicted" (Isaiah 53:4). So we sinned, but Jesus suffered the punishment. This was God's will to save us.
IV. conclusion
We must not forget the fact that Christ came in the flesh and hung instead for the suffering we had to hang on the cross. So there is always a sense of debt in the heart of a good Christian. It is the total grace of God that Jesus Christ was crucified for me, and so there is a confession that I did not buy what I bought. The day that commemorates the coming of Jesus Christ in a human body is called Christmas Day. It was a joy for us, a shame for him, and it was the beginning of sorrow. Therefore, the best will of our Lord, who allowed Christmas, is that we know the love of God, who sent his only Son into this world. And not only to return to that love, but to bring many people who could not return to this love to return to this love.
