Sermons for Preaching

Title: Godly Confidence/Psalm 18:20-24

Content: Godly conviction / Psalm 18:20-24

Key Verse: “The Lord rewards me according to my righteousness… He has repaid me according to the cleanliness of my hands in his eyes.

Word: Psalm 18:1-19 is a song of victory sung by David after he was completely saved from the threat of Saul. The reason for his victory is clearly revealed in the words, “O LORD, my strength, I love you” (verse 1). He confesses that he is victorious because of God who is pleased with him (verse 19).

1. Righteousness comes with rewards (verses 21-23)

First, he fulfilled his mission and lived a life of fulfilling his mission without intentionally leaving God. Second, I lived a life centered on the Word, keeping all the ordinances (commands) of God in front of my eyes and not throwing them away. Third, he lived a life of realizing godliness, trying to be perfect before God by keeping himself from sin. The results of this life are well expressed in the words, “He rewarded me according to my righteousness, and he rewarded me according to the cleanliness of my hands.” Therefore, our life should be a life in which God's righteousness (related to basic salvation) is based and our righteousness (related to constructional salvation) is established.

2. God's rule is consistent (verses 25-26)

The fact that righteousness is rewarded allows us to know ‘what God expects of us’ and ‘what can we expect of God?’ First, those who show mercy to others can expect mercy from God. Second, those who are faithful to their covenant with God can expect God to fully keep that promise. Third, those who serve God with a clean conscience can receive God's clean words. Fourth, to those who are peculiar and who oppose the Lord, God opposes and opposes them.

3. God responds appropriately to humans (verses 27-28)

A poor people is a humble people. To them, God gives them the comfort of salvation. He gives fear to the proud. God is a terror to those who have proud eyes and despise the poor and godly people. He gives encouragement to those who have their own righteousness and clean hands. With these three godly convictions, I hope that you will become a family where you live by faith, asking, ‘Please reward me according to my righteousness,’ ‘Light up my darkness,’ ‘Light my lamp.

Prayer: May we always become a family faithful to our covenant with God and a family that gives thanks to God who rewards us according to righteousness. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
