Title: Good God/Job 34:1-15
Content Job 34:1-15
good god
It is a well-known fact that Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci first painted a portrait of Jesus around the 15th century. While painting the famous 'The Last Supper', he modeled a young man in the countryside, and it is said that this was the beginning of the portrait of Jesus. However, something suddenly pops into our heads. The fact is that no matter how famous the painting is, the portrait of Jesus painted on it is not the real Jesus.
We can apply this to the disposition of God. That is, no matter how people talk about God's disposition in one way or another, no one will reveal the full reality of His disposition.
We can only speak of Him by believing the words of the Bible and experiencing them to some extent.
Then, when we say that God is good, what points do we have in saying that?
##### 1. He does no evil
Chapter 10 of the text...
So, this was the advice that Job had to assume that no matter how he thought about God, God would never do evil. Because Job was suffering without cause at that time, he had a good chance to regard God as evil.
Saints!
The most difficult problem given to mankind since ancient times was whether God is really good. Indeed, when we see the sin, suffering, and death that pervades this earth, as well as natural disasters that are constantly taking place everywhere, we start to question whether God's divinity is really good.
So, pessimistic philosophers like Schopenhauer in Germany argued.
Indeed, it is true that evil prevails in this earth. However, we must not forget that Elihu's premise here. The truth is that God certainly does not do evil.
For this, the word 'God is love' is the only proof.
God is good.
##### 2. He does not bend justice
Chapter 12 of the text...
God never forsakes justice. In fact, as Job suffered at the time, he had many reasons to doubt God's justice. It was because he was filled with the thought that if God were just, he could not inflict pain on him without cause.
As can be seen from Job's attitude, there seems to be no attribute on this earth that is more questioned by people than God's justice.
Example: A society where justice is collapsing
But God is a God of justice.
##### 3. You don't think only of yourself
Elihu went on to make it clear that God was never the only one who thought of himself.
Verses 14 and 15 of the text...
If God only thinks of Himself, then we can never say that He is a good being. For there is nothing as opposed to true goodness as selfishness.
So, some biblical scholars even said that if God behaves selfishly, such a God will become an enemy of himself before he becomes an enemy of man. God is by no means selfish who thinks only of himself. That is why God has given us everything and even his beloved son as a propitiation offering.
Therefore, we must never doubt the goodness of God who only gives.
--We live in a selfish world that is only for ourselves. Let's give up our selfishness and live an exclusive life for others.
