Title: Good News of Great Joy

Good news of great joy (Luke 2:10-14)

In this chaotic and accidental era, the Christmas season to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ has come again with joy. As we reconsider the birth of the Lord Jesus, we would like to consider the historical truth of the Lord's coming and the sincerity of the saints toward His purpose.

I would like to reflect on the Christmas of the Lord under the theme of 'good news of a great joy', as we have reached in verse 10 of the text.

The time of Jesus' birth was when Judea was already oppressed by Rome, and the emperors at that time were Caesar (Siiz or Caesar) and Caesar Augustus (Caesar Augustus). In 30 years A.D. He is known to have reigned until August 19, 14, when Judea was ruled by Cyrene, the governor of Syria.

I think that Emperor Augusto's registration of all the Jews living in scattered places was a way to boast of his ruling power while aiming to collect taxes. It seems that the wife also came to the city with Joseph because her husband could not go to Jerusalem alone, leaving Mary, who was near full term, in her hometown.

There were too many people, so there was a shortage of officers, and the desperate situation of the birth of the baby Jesus in the stable was in a hurry. It is significant that the Lord was born in a manger in Bethlehem, which means house of bread. He was born as a scene suggesting that he was the Savior who came from the heaven of glory to a lowly earth and came to give us the bread of life by being born in a poor condition and in a manger.

In the context of the Christmas drama where the baby Jesus was born, we hope to examine the historical and emotional differences between the people of the world and the saints who are celebrating Christmas in the global village today and make it a proper Christmas season.

1. Jesus came as the Son of God

The so-called Jesus is the fact that he came as the Son of God, the Son of God, not as an ordinary human who appeared in this world as the 4th saint. Many teachers in the world say they are sons of God, but their births are not like the Lord Jesus. Why should it be considered that he was born as the Son of God?

Psalm 2:7 "I bring you the spirit," the LORD said to me, "You are my son; today I have begotten you."

1) Angels delivered the news of the birth (2:9, 10, 13, 17)

10 "The angel said, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will come to all the people."

The angel's message is based on the fact that Jesus came from heaven.

John 3:13 “No one has ascended into heaven except him who came down from heaven, the Son of Man.” The Lord's original dwelling place is the glory of heaven. The Lord was originally from eternity. He was in heaven's glory and came in the flesh as a sinner to save us sinners.

John 8:58 "Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I was." John 17:5 "Father, glorify me with you even now, with the glory that I had with you before the foundation of the world."

2) He came into the world because he was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

35 “The angel answered and said, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

Matthew 1:20 “As he was thinking about this, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for she who is conceived is of the Holy Spirit.”

3) You came to borrow a virgin body

Even sea crabs are exposed to sunlight to reproduce. Maria was conceived as a virgin. I was shocked when the angel told me this.

Luke 1:34 “And Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man” I do not know. How could you have a child if you had nothing to do with it?

The NASB translation says since I am a virgin. I am still a virgin, he said.

<Prophecy> Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

<Fulfillment> Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and he will call his name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

In order to celebrate the right Christmas Day, we need to know that the birth of Jesus is not the day when the head of some religion was born, but the day the Son of God came to save us. Knowing Jesus as a human being and celebrating Christmas Day is a misunderstanding, a false celebration, and it is not something that God is pleased with.

John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son will not see eternal life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

1 John 5:12-13 “He who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. Hamira”

It is very important to confess that Jesus is the Son of God, but he who does not confess is called the Antichrist.

1 John 4:2-3 “By this you know the Spirit of God, that every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, which is the Spirit of the Antichrist. You have heard that it is coming, but it is already in the world.”

2. You came as Christ

11 “Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord.”

People around the world make Christmas a day of drinking and playing. We must celebrate Christmas by realizing that Jesus was born into the world to become the Messiah, the Christ, who came to save us.

14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased.”

The birth of Christ, which God has now revealed to the Gentiles, is a glory in heaven and a peace on earth, and this peace is not for all, but for those with whom God is pleased. A person who is happy at a banquet house, and a bride at a banquet house, and their family are different. The people who will truly rejoice in the Christmas season are the people of God who will confess that they are sinners and believe in the Lord and rejoice.

14 ...Peace on earth among those with whom he is pleased." When we say that we regard the birth of Jesus as the birth of Christ,

1) It means that we accept ourselves as saviors because we are sinners.

2) It means repenting and welcoming the Lord.

Matthew 16:16 "Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

John 6:69 “We believed and knew that you are the Holy One of God.”

During the Christmas season, you can sing and listen to the Ave Maria (Hail Mary, Welcoming Mary) song called Our Lady. But what we need to know is that although Mary is a woman of grace, she is not a person to be praised and sung. Because Mary is also a sinner's woman, let's look at what she confessed when she embraced Jesus.

Luke 1:47-48 “My heart rejoiced in God my Savior, because he looked upon the lowliness of the maidservant. Behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.” Rejoicing unconditionally is self-intoxication and worldly, It's an act that ruins Christmas. The Bible is pleasing to God, that is, the chosen people repent and rejoice in believing in the Lord as the Christ.

3. It is a Christmas that must be glorified

Chapter 15 “And the angels departed and went up into heaven, and the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us now go to Bethlehem and see what has been accomplished, which the Lord has made known to us. As they heard the news from the angel, the shepherds hurried to confirm the birth of Christ (16), and after confirming it, they glorified and sang praises to God.

1 Corinthians 10:31 “Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Based on the principle of the believer's life, Christmas should give thanks and glory to God even more. However, we have to give glory to God because we are deeply interested in festivals where we celebrate and rejoice in people and enjoy each other.

Just as God gave his son to love us, caring for the poor and needy during the Christmas season is proper service during the Christmas season.

Christmas was first celebrated in Rome in 354 AD and has continued since then. December 25th was designated as the official date of the birth of Jesus. I do not like the date because it has its origin in one place. It appears that Jesus was born shortly before Herod's death.

The ancient history written by Josephus (chapter 17, p. 167) records that Herod died after a lunar eclipse in late March-early April 4 B.C. Therefore, it is presumed that the birth date of the Lord was not in this cold winter, but in the early spring of the Passover season. In Korea, Christmas has been observed since 1885 when missionaries arrived.

The holiday season has been reduced to world culture as a free and pleasant festival. Biblically, it is more to commemorate the Lord's death and resurrection than to celebrate the Lord's birthday. However, the world neither believes in nor rejoices in the resurrection of the Lord, but loves the Christmas season. This is a disgrace to God because we do not know the true content of Christmas.

We believe that the birth of the Lord, the good news of great joy, will be written again in our hearts and in the conscience of our faith again this year. Let's live a life that resembles In the name of the Lord, I invite you to share with all of us a correct understanding of the Christmas season, this great good news.
