Grace to the Humble 1 Peter 5:5-6
1. ‘Young people, be obedient to the elders and be humble.’
Today's text is an exhortation to young people, admonishing elders to 'be obedient and humble'. ‘Obedience’ and ‘humility’ are closely related.
Young people can refer to young people, or it can refer to a church that is just starting out like ours. It may also refer to young saints with a level of faith.
2. “Ground each other with humility.”
This is what the Bible emphasizes about pride.
“The pride of a man’s heart is the forerunner of destruction, but humility is a guide to honor” (Proverbs 18:12).
“You have rebuked those who are proud and cursed and turn from your commands” (Psalm 119:1).
“A fool is proud and asks for a rod with his mouth, but the lips of the wise guard themselves” (Proverbs 14:3).
“The pride of your heart has deceived you; you who dwell in the clefts of the rocks and dwell on high, you say in your heart, Who can bring me down to the earth?” (Ob 1:3).
“When pride comes, there comes reproach, but wisdom is with the humble” (Proverbs 11:2).
“The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and humility is a guide to honor” (Proverbs 15:33).
“The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord is riches and glory and life” (Proverbs 22:4).
“O LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble; prepare their hearts and give their ears to hear” (Psalm 10:17).
“He who is humble will eat and be filled, and he who seeks the Lord will praise him; your hearts may live forever” (Psalm 22:26).
If you are humble, you will be blessed. The humble and God are together.
3. ‘All things are done by God, so be humble and obey’
4. ‘I will exalt you in due time’
Believe that God will exalt you when the time is right, and Peter instructs you to ‘be humble under the mighty hand of God’. I hope that these words given today will bless me and you for the rest of your life.
