Great Anxiety (Romans 7:21-8:4)
There are people who believe in Jesus to find peace of mind. But believing in Jesus is not for peace of mind. The purpose is to gain life. If you believe in Jesus, you will not find peace of mind, but conflicts and troubles will follow. Jesus said that if you believe in Jesus, you will experience conflict. If you believe in Jesus, conflicts arise like the troubles that arise when there are two lovers.
A man had a lover. This woman likes to play, eat, drink and enjoy the pleasures of the flesh. This man knew that dating this woman would be fun, but there was no future. So I made a new lover. I like to travel, go to the cinema and study more than play. Even if you don't have fun today, we tell you to prepare for the future. Everything your new girlfriend said is right. But the bad girlfriend he had been dating before won't let him go. They keep calling and coming back to have fun like the old days. Your new girlfriend is right, but sometimes boring. So, I meet my old lover and live like the old days. Then the body is happy, but the mind is painful. Conflict arises. I'm afraid to see my new girlfriend.
When such conflict arises, we should not be discouraged. These galls are proof that I am a Christian. Just as there was no conflict when there was only one lover, there is no such conflict when you do not know Jesus and live according to Satan's instructions. The existence of these conflicts is proof that I have become a sure Christian. We must also remember that this conflict cannot be resolved on our own. Even if we believe in Jesus and receive salvation, we still have the inclination to sin. We cannot stop it by our own strength. God sent Jesus to help us do what we cannot do on our own. If I depend on Jesus, I can overcome the sin in me.
