Title: Resentment and Living Water (Lecture 38)
In today's text, we find this. In verse 1 of the text, the Israelites say that it is in the first month. They were unable to conquer the land of Canaan at Kadesh-Barnea and went on their wanderings again, but now they came back to the Wilderness of Sin and arrived at Kadesh-Barnea. In other words, he returned after wandering for 40 years. In verse 22, we read that they departed from Kadesh-Barnea and came to Mount Hor. At this point, Aaron dies. Shall we look at Chapter 33? If we look here, in 33:38, how many years does Aaron's death say it was after he came out of Egypt? It's called 40 years. So, after disobeying God in Kadesh-Barnea and failing in the conquest of Canaan, now, according to God's word, all those over the age of 20 have died, and now all such people have grown up and arrived at this historic site. Then they buried Miriam. The burial of Miriam here is a scene that clearly shows that all the people over the age of 20 were dead. What happened when these people arrived at Kadesh-Barnea? Because there was no water, they complained against Moses and Aaron.
They have been wandering for 40 years now. Why did God make them wander in the wilderness? It is shown in Deuteronomy 8:2,3. It is to make them live completely dependent on God alone. I want you to know that the things of the world save you, that the things of the world make you happy, and that my life does not prosper or lose because the things of the world are rich. However, at the time when they have to go back to the land of Canaan after living in that wilderness, they are still doing the sins of their ancestors. It clearly shows that the guy is the guy. So what do they say in verse 3? “It would have been better if we had died when our brothers died,” he says. What does this mean? They were afraid to enter the land of Canaan at Kadesh-Barnea, but they were judged by God and they all died. This is the human form.
Humans are failing beings. No matter how much people change, if they enter the environment, humans resent and resist. But God's love never fails. We find through today's text that the people of Israel conquered the land of Canaan not because they had good faith, but because God's love did not fail. I am just so grateful. Discover this love of God and live. Believe in this and live victoriously in this world. What this world needs is not money, fame, health, or power, but outside the cross of Jesus.
