Title: Grim Death, Brilliant Resurrection
main text ; John 11:25-26
Whether in the East or the West, death is accompanied by sorrow, pain and tears.
Therefore, the death of Jesus, who came in human form, was also a very sad and tragic event.
Moreover, so great and so pure was cursed and hung on a cross to die, and even before he died he was mocked, beaten to and fro, and also whipped, pierced with savage thorns in his head, His hands and feet were pierced with nails, and his side was pierced with spears, so Jesus' death was a tragic death.
Even Jesus knew that it was so tragic that he was being killed, so he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane so that drops of blood would flow to God.
“Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me.”
In Matthew 26:37-38, Jesus said that before his death, "he was very troubled and grieved."
However, since you and I here have not yet experienced the pain of death, it is natural that we do not understand the suffering of death no matter how much we explain it.
There may be people who say, "I fell asleep and woke up and found that I was in heaven" without suffering the blessing of Malone's death.
But the death of Jesus was the most painful of all death.
It was a very gruesome death, both spiritually and physically. So Jesus cried out on the cross.
"Eli Eli Lama Sabachthani! My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
No matter how gruesome Jesus' death was, the Bible says that when Jesus died, darkness fell on the whole earth even though it was daytime. The death of Jesus was truly an event filled with sorrow and suffering.
I thought that Jesus would never die, but I thought that Jesus would not hurt a single hair of his head. On the contrary, Jesus cried out, “I am thirsty!” in great pain, and was naked in front of many people and suffered shame and humiliation. He became a corpse and lowered his head.
The person who cried out for victory like that, and the person who cried like that for life, died in the face of death in such a vain and helpless way, and even in excruciating pain, great confusion came to those who believed and followed Jesus as their Savior.
And people asked themselves:
"No, is he really the savior...?" And to this question, most Israelis answered:
"I have misunderstood the person! That person is only a weak person! Seeing that he was cursed to death on a tree like that, he may be a serious sinner."
Thousands of people thought like this and turned away from the death of Jesus. Even the disciples who had followed Jesus for three years saw the tragic death of Jesus and gave up all being his disciples.
In the face of Jesus' tragic death, the disciples' dreams and hopes all disappeared.
Folks, death takes away everything.
They take away their husbands, wives, and children they love, and they take away the money they've worked so hard for all their lives, leaving nothing behind.
And no matter how beautiful the body was, it all rotted and turned into a terrifying skeleton.
"Oh no no no! I don't want to die!" And no matter how much we shout, death never escapes us. And one day that death will unfortunately come to you and me as well.
The sorrow and pain of this death are so devastating that some people try to forget it. And some people try to reduce the pain of death by saying, "Death is beautiful."
But death is also death. No matter how beautiful death is, death is accompanied by pain, sorrow, and tears.
But why did Jesus not escape such a gruesome death and die on the cross voluntarily?
The reason is because he knew that there is a glorious resurrection that follows a gruesome death. Because it is only when you are ridiculed and despised that you and your shame and faults will be covered.
You and I must be torn apart by being whipped in such severe pain so that you and I can be healed from disease, and on the cross, "Ah, I am thirsty!" Only when you cry out, you and I will receive living water that will never thirst.
On the cross he said, "God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus endured a gruesome death because he knew that grace would come when you and I became God's children and went to heaven when we were thoroughly abandoned by God.
How injustice would it be if Jesus simply died tragically at the age of thirty-three? How old is it to be thirty-three? But what did you do wrong?
If you were betrayed by the evil disciple Judas Iscariot and ended the world in a snap by the vicious and cruel religious leaders, where else would there be such injustice?
If that were the case, no one would believe in such a God.
"Where the hell is God? If God exists, how could this be!" Wouldn't there be no one who was angry and believed in God?
Also, if it happened that the Pharisees were arrogant and the priests were arrogant, walking around the world like righteous people, and the body of Jesus was completely rotted away in the tomb... Who would believe in such an incompetent God?
A woman was walking down a quiet street in Chicago. Then I saw a picture of Christ crucified through an open window in a house.
The moment she saw the painting, she felt a shiver all over her body. As if bound by a strange force, the wife did not leave him for a long time.
But suddenly I felt someone next to me, so I turned around and saw a boy staring at the picture frantically. I read the feeling on his face as if the picture of Christ on the cross was holding on to this boy's soul and not letting go.
With a bold thought, the woman patted the boy on the shoulder and asked. "Son, do you know what the picture you are looking at right now?" "Then, didn't Grandma know?"
The little boy explained the painting to his wife, thinking that she did not know what the painting meant.
"Mother, it is Jesus that was crucified over there. The man next to him is a Roman soldier. And that woman crying is Jesus' mother. Those soldiers killed Jesus."
The woman, who had been quietly listening to the story, did not want to leave the painting, but quietly turned away.
However, after a certain amount of time had passed, the boy, gasping for breath, followed him and said, "Ma'am, I couldn't tell you what to say first. Jesus was resurrected. I came running to tell you that."
Ladies and gentlemen, there is a splendid resurrection after Jesus' gruesome death. However, like this boy, there are times when we think only of Jesus' death and forget that Jesus was resurrected.
So there are times when we just grieve over the fact of Jesus' death. But do not forget. Jesus is resurrected. And the resurrected Lord is here with us in spirit right now.
And he is telling us: "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
Ladies and gentlemen, hardships like a gruesome death can come in our lives as well. But don't forget. After a while, a glorious resurrection will come to us.
And how intense is that brilliant resurrection light, the despair and darkness that previously enveloped us will disappear without leaving a trace, and a new world of hope will unfold.
Therefore, our hearts flutter when we face this resurrection morning.
Just as the resurrected Jesus is no longer ridiculed and despised, we also have the power of resurrection so that we will no longer suffer from the forces that mocked and despised us so much.
Through the resurrection of Jesus, we are now free and set free. Therefore we can cry out joyfully on this resurrection morning.
"Long live the kingdom of heaven - Long live Jesus - Long live Calgary Full Gospel Central Church! You're free, I'm free, we're free~♬"
Now, folks, be free from all the events of the past that caused you great pain. And enjoy that joy to the fullest. The sadness has already passed. The forces of destruction are already far and far away. Pain and anguish can no longer surround us.
We have a glorious resurrection. And that resurrection assures us:
"Good things will happen in the future. There will be many joyous and joyful things in the future. Rejoice therefore. Rejoice. Your wishes will come true." Hallelujah !
Just as the disciples, who were greatly discouraged and sagged in Jesus' death, gained new courage and hope, confident of a splendid resurrection, and finally conquered Rome with the gospel, so we too face discouragement and disappointment in the morning of this resurrection. You have to let go of despair.
We must be courageous and move forward with hope. And in this foreign land, we must absolutely build the kingdom of heaven.
Everyone, please. Let's take the lead in building the kingdom of heaven together with a new heart with the power of resurrection
Let's pray vigorously for the revival of the church and give each other courage and hope. Let's fill our short life with the hope of a brilliant resurrection.
And on the day of resurrection, let us embrace again and sing a thrilling resurrection song.
And let us give glory to Jesus, who has given us a brilliant resurrection. "Glory to the Lord~♬"
