Title: Hannah's Prayer and Vow

1 Samuel 1:9~18 Hannah's prayer and vow Topic: 14. Prayer 2007. 8. 5.

Introduction

: Hannah prays to get Samuel (1-28)

As the last judge and the first prophet, the background of the birth of a man who will usher in a new era according to God's will in a time of extreme confusion and corruption is dealt with.

One). Hannah seeking a son from God (9-11)

2). Eli's misunderstanding and Hannah's explanation (12~18)

1. Hannah Rescuing Her Son (9-11)

Knowing that her suffering and shame cannot be resolved through human methods or comfort, Hannah seeks a practical solution to the problem.

* In other words, Hana got up from her problems and went to God.

* Hannah knew what to do to solve her problem and stood up for it.

One). Approaching God (9-10)

“Hannah got up” After Eli and her party ate in Shiloh, Hannah left alone.

This visible change in behavior means an inner change.

* Hannah's “waking up” speaks of how she got up from her mourning and sorrow and turned to comfort and answers from God.

“Hannah’s heart was troubled, and she prayed to the Lord and wept” (10)

* “Wept over” Weeping is an action expressed when one's feelings are extremely hurt.

Weeping is a manifestation of the character of intense appeal, and therefore trusting God to hear one's prayers.

It means that you did not hide your pain in the slightest.

2). Make a vow to God (11)

Hannah was in a place where she could be alone with God for true comfort and peace.

Prayer: Hannah weeps and vomits her pain to save her son. And if he gave him a son, he said, “I will give him to the Lord.”

“He did not forget his maidservant” Hannah was not just asking for a son. If you take a look at yourself and answer the prayer “Do not forget your maidservant”, you will give your son back to God in thanks for the answer.

Hannah's vow prayer is God's faithfulness, that is, she saved God Himself.

3). Characteristics of Hannah's Prayer

① She knew exactly who God was. “Jehovah of Armies”

* “Jehovah of armies” is the one in command of the armies of Israel

* That God is the Creator of all things, or the Ruler and Ruler of all creation in heaven and on earth.

(1 Kings 22:190

② She knew what kind of existence she was in her relationship with God. “The Servant of the Lord”

* Confessed God as the One who has all sovereignty over him.

* Hannah, who knew for sure who God was and how he was related to God, now had her prayers answered.

Believe that it will come true, and if you give him a son, he vows to give him to God.

* The vow was made because Hannah had the assurance of an answer to prayer in her heart.

2. Eli's misunderstanding and Hannah's explanation (12~18)

Although it would not have been easy to get attention because there were many pilgrims during the Passover celebration, the priest paid attention to Hannah.

① Hannah prayed for a long time. “While Praying Long Before Jehovah”

② Hannah prayed only with her lips. “Speaking inwardly, only the lips moved, but no voice was heard.”

One). Ellie thinks Hannah is drunk. (12-14)

Eli noticed Hannah's long prayers and misunderstood that she was drunk. This is how spiritually Eli, who was in charge of the middle school as Israel's judge and high priest, was declining spiritually,

show that you are insensitive.

* The reason we did not have a prudent attitude to judge from a spiritual point of view was because we were spiritually lazy.

2). Hannah explains Eli's misunderstanding. (15-16)

Hannah's attitude toward Eli's misunderstanding and rebuke was gentle, generous, and calm.

“Hannah answered and said, …”

① “Lord” It shows that Eli was called by God and recognized and respected.

② Shows the humble attitude of “maid servant” Hannah.

③ “Do not regard your maidservant as an evil woman” “Evil woman” means “a wicked woman”, “a prodigal woman” or “a worthless woman”;

* Eli entered the temple drunk and treated Hannah as a drunken woman, but she acknowledged his authority as a leader and remained humble.

3). Eli blesses Hannah. (17)

After hearing Hannah's explanation, Eli immediately prays for Hannah's blessing. It is the highest consideration of the priest.

① All of Ellie's suspicions about Hannah's drunken behavior were resolved.

② Eli sincerely prayed that Hannah's prayer would be answered. His blessing is also a formal declaration that her prayers are in accordance with God's will.

4). Search disappeared from Hannah's face. (18)

After pouring out all of her heart before God and making a vow with confidence, Hannah now returns with a peaceful mind.

Hannah's answer to Eli's blessing shows Hannah's confidence and peace.

“I want you to find favor” This is a stronger expression of the conviction that God will surely answer you.

“There was no more worry on his face.” As such, the greatest proof of the assurance of answers to prayer is 'peace'.

It is the total comfort of the Holy Spirit.
