Title: Happiness of the Saints Text: Psalm 84:10-12
The British Neurological Foundation surveyed the happiness index of 178 countries around the world. The happiest country in the world is Vanuatu, a small island country in the Oceania archipelago, with Korea at 102nd, the UK at 108th, the United States at 150th, and France at 129th. The countries with the best lives in the world hovered at the bottom of the happiness index. If you look at this, you can see that having a lot doesn't make you happy. Said to be the happiest country in the world, Vanuatu ranks 207th out of 233 countries economically. Nevertheless, it was chosen as the happiest country in terms of life satisfaction, environment, and life expectancy. In today's text, the psalmist confesses that man can enjoy the greatest blessings through God. Verse 4 says, “Blessed are those who dwell in your house.”
1. The happiness of time.
(Psalm 84:10) “Better one day in the Master's court than a thousand elsewhere.” If you look through the text, it shows that living a long life is not happiness. Happiness is not how long you live, but how you live. They confess that it is happier and a blessing to live one day in the temple where God is present than to spend a thousand days enjoying many things in the world. No matter how many things in the world, a life without the Lord is a meaningless life, an unhappy life, and a meaningless life. Spiritually living saints should be happier in their time of worship, service, and devotion in the temple than their years in the world. That is the true form of the saints. The way to live a long, short life in the constant flow of time is not to extend the time, but to improve the quality of life.
2. Happiness through place.
(Psalm 84:10) “Rather than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” He is looking at the temple now and longing to live in the temple of God. It is that the temple where God is with us is happier than a house with all good conditions, and living there is a greater blessing.
Most people say that living in a spacious house is happiness and blessing. However, no matter how large a house is, a house without the Lord is not happy. How big a palace did Solomon live? He built the temple and his palace for 20 years and lived with 700 concubines and 300 binjangs. It is said that he lived with 1000 concubines. However, he confessed this in Ecclesiastes, written by Solomon. Ecclesiastes 1:2 “The preacher said, Vanity, vanity, vanity, vanity, all things are vanity.” The word ‘vain’ here means ‘emptiness’ and symbolically means ‘transience’ or ‘unsatisfactory’. In one word, this means 'I am not happy'.
3. Happiness through work.
(Psalm 84:10) He said, “It is good to be the gatekeeper of my God.” The psalmist confesses that he is happier to be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than to have a high-ranking job in the world. No matter how well-received the job may be, a job without God will not make Christians happy. The disciples of Jesus followed Jesus because they were more proud of Jesus' disciple, the son of a carpenter, than the profession of a rich fisherman.
Paul was more proud and happy to become a disciple of Jesus, who had never even been to school, than his qualifications as a Roman citizen or the diploma he obtained under Gamaliel. I was proud of the cross of Jesus that people hate. Gal 6:14
4. What makes you happy?
That's because, first of all, God is a shield. The sun makes plants grow, kills germs, and makes them healthy. Also, the sun shines, making things discernible. Second, because He gives grace and glory. Grace refers to giving freely. The glory speaks of abundance. Thirdly, because it satisfies the honest with good things.
