Title: Hate sin / Exodus 20:13-17
Hate sin / Exodus 20:13-17
Key Verse: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16).
The Word: Satan looks around with the eyes of greed gleaming. Disguised himself as good, he approached the woman. Whispers secretly. “You will be like God!” Women fall for this temptation. His mate, the man, also fell into the trap of greed. The serpent corrupted Adam and Eve. At its core lies lies and greed.
“What kind of medicine is this?” “It’s poison.” “Then can I take the label off this vial and write ‘Sugar’?”
One of the things that Christianity has lost in modern times is the doctrine of sin and forgiveness. Rather than calling sin a sin, the seriousness of the sin has faded as it has been weakened as ‘mistake’ and ‘lack’. Naturally, the craving for holiness also cooled.
Killing people is a sin. Even if you do not kill yourself, it is a sin if you do something that contributes to an environment that leads to death. Adultery is a sin. Sexual relations outside of marriage are a sin. It is a sin to steal from others, whether small or large. Cunning is a sin and hacking is a sin. Stealing technically in a sophisticated way is also a sin. Before embezzling public money or evading taxes is a social sin, we must know that it is a sin before God. Lying and greed of all kinds are all sins.
Our nation's great teacher, Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, especially hated lies. Dosan's nephew lives in Jeongneung. When you enter the room of the woman who is over eighty years old, a picture frame hangs. It was written by Dosan-sensei himself. “Even if you die, don’t lie”
Prayer: Turn away from sin and hate it. Make me yearn for holiness. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
