Title: Have This Mind in You
Bible: Philippians 2:5-11
Quiet Prayer: Together
Hymn: 455
Representative prayer: Deacon Kim Ae-ja
Starting Point of the Word>>
This time, we will share the sermon with the title of “Have this heart in you” through the words of the text.
In today's text, Paul exhorts the Philippian church to 'have this mind in you'.
At that time, the Philippian church had a love for Paul and a passion for preaching the gospel, but it was because there was a conflict between the members of the church because they could not be united as one.
If you look at Psalm 51:10,
He said, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew in me an upright spirit.”
What kind of heart we hold in our hearts is very important.
Today, we ask in the name of the Lord that we will realize what kind of heart Paul exhorted to the Philippian church through the words of this text is and that we too will become believers in this heart.
Go to Word>>
The heart that Paul is speaking to the Philippian church today is,
First, the desire to become one.
If we look at the words of verse 2,
“Be of the same mind, be of the same love, be of one accord, be of one mind”
Says.
Any group in the world can be seen as a beautiful group if they are with each other with the same heart.
So is the church.
The cause of envy, jealousy, and quarrels in the church is because there is little desire to become one.
People hate to get hurt, but it's okay to hurt others.
But we must realize what the heart of the Lord is like.
If we are to unite our minds, we must be able to embrace the negative elements of each other.
You should also avoid giving the other person an irritating shock.
Shocking each other means hurting and hurting each other.
If you have this kind of mind, your mind cannot become one.
So, in verse 3,
“Let nothing be done through strife or vanity, but go in lowliness of mind, esteeming others better than yourself.”
I say.
In order for our hearts to become one, we must humble ourselves first.
By judging the other person as better than me, I set my heart on him.
Please realize that we cannot expect any power when our hearts are different, but when our hearts are united as one, God's power is multiplied and revealed to us.
According to Romans 8:28,
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.”
Says.
God grants great grace through those who work together, that is, those who work together to accomplish God's will.
Second, you must have a heart of love.
If we look again at verse 2,
“Having the same heart, having the same love”
Says.
Because Jesus loved us, He laid down all His thrones in heaven and came to this earth and went on the arduous way of the cross.
If we harbor hatred, envy, jealousy, resentment, or complaints toward our brothers, we must restore our faith by repenting to the Lord.
Example>>
Even hedgehogs say that their cubs are adorable.
If there are parents who scold their newborn baby for doing diapers,
Also, if there are parents who starve for several days because they do not eat well,
If there are parents who do not send their children to school because they cannot study,
We will not call them parents.
No matter how poor and poor they are, the parents watch their children take care of them with love.
Why?
It is because I see it with a heart of love.
If you look at it with love, everything looks lovely.
Let's look at 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 together.
“Love is patient, love is kind, does not envy, love does not boast, is not proud, is not rude, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, rejoices in the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things”
In the name of the Lord, I ask that you, in the name of the Lord, have such a heart of love in the hearts of all our members and become more like Christ.
Third, it is the heart that regards others as superior to oneself.
Looking at verses 3-4,
“But in lowliness of mind, let each one consider others better than himself, and let each one consider his own affairs, but also the interests of others, so that my joy may be full” (Philippians 2:3,4).
If you are humble, you will consider others to be better than you.
While faithful to our own work, we must go one step further and take care of the affairs and circumstances of others.
Although Jesus was the original God, he did not take equality with God, but emptied himself and humbled himself to the point of becoming a servant.
According to John 13:4-5,
“He got up from the dinner table, took off his coat, took a towel, put it around his waist, poured water into a basin, washed the disciples’ feet, and began wiping with the towel that was wrapped around him.”
As the saying goes, even though Jesus was a teacher, he was humble even to wash the disciples' feet.
Fourth, we are talking about the heart of Jesus.
If we look at verse 5,
“Have this heart in you. the heart of Christ Jesus.”
We must deeply understand what the heart of Jesus is like.
Jesus' heart
① It is a humble heart.
Look at verses 6-8 of the text.
“For he, being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God to be robbery, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human form, and being found in human form, humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. ”
‘Having humbled himself’ means humility, and ‘taking the form of a servant’ means serving.
And “until death on the cross” means sacrifice.
There are people in this world who live with gratitude even when there are hardships and difficulties, and their life is a humble life.
A heart that can live happily is a heart of gratitude, and gratitude is a grace that only the humble can taste.
② It is the heart of a servant who serves.
Because Jesus had love in his heart, he accepted others and supported the servants who served them.
Pride seeks to be served, humility seeks to serve.
Humility puts others first and yokes slavery with joy to benefit others.
Serving is respected by people.
③ Self-sacrificing heart.
Jesus gave himself up to death on the cross.
Jesus' blessing was on the cross.
So, if we want to receive the blessing of Jesus, we must receive the blessing of dying with Jesus and living with Jesus.
At the end of the speech>>
Today's verse tells us, "Let this mind be in you."
This heart is a heart that is united with the love of Christ, a heart of love, and a heart that considers others better than myself. In a word, this is the heart of Jesus.
In order for us to have this heart of Jesus, a life that thoroughly kills me must come first.
As much as we have emptied ourselves from this earth, the heart of the Lord is contained and we are filled with His character.
We must give up all our greed, our emotions, our thoughts, and our selfishness.
Through this Lent, I pray in the name of the Lord that you and I, our members, who embrace the heart of Jesus Christ, receive God's greater grace and love.
United Prayer>>
God the Father who is in charge of our life and death, we give praise and glory to you today by presenting a small image of us.
I confess my gratitude every day whenever I think of God's love and grace that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross because He loved us so much.
We want to live in God's grace, but we confess that there are times when we cannot follow God's will due to physical problems. Father, at this time, grant us the fullness of the Holy Spirit, so that we do not set our thoughts on the world. Help us to live our lives looking at you like you are.
Father, who knows the weakness of our faith, embrace us, reveal your power in all things of our lives, and let us live responsive lives by obedience to your Word.
Grant us faith and grace so that we may become prayer workers for the church of God and for our brothers, neighbors, and saints.
I pray in the name of the loving Jesus. Amen
