a person of faith
Text: Hebrews 11:33-40
Hebrews 11 is called the faith chapter. It speaks of the preciousness of faith and the power of faith and the powerful and victorious people of the people of faith. Starting with Abel's faith, Enoch Noah Abraham Isaac Jacob Moses Joshua Listing the names of the judges who lived victoriously, then, what kind of people are the people of faith?
What kind of person is a person of faith?
From verses 33 to 35, I would like to title the man of miracles.
Verse 33 You can also overcome nations through faith, and you can read many miraculous victories in the Bible where people of faith fight against enemy nations. Joshua destroyed the impregnable and impregnable city of Jericho with faith. Gideon defeated numerous Midianite soldiers with 300 men, and there are countless examples of victory over the nation by faith.
The phrase “sometimes doing righteousness and also doing righteousness here” refers to annihilating injustice and iniquity in the society and community of faith, and to rule the country justly and justly.
2 Samuel 7:1 It is said that the LORD gave peace to the kingdom at the time when the LORD destroyed all his enemies on every side and made the king dwell in peace in his palace.
This was how David was, and when the kings of faith such as Jehoshaphat Josiah Hezekiah ruled, the Lord brought peace to the nation.
When we prayed and waited, God gave us a promise, and God gave a son to those who were like the dead.
It also blocks the mouths of lions, and this tells the story of an incident where Daniel was thrown into the lions' den as a plan of the enemies in the days of King Darius, but God blocked the lions' mouths and kept them safe.
34 It destroyed the power of fire, and in Dan 3, King Nebuchadnezzar threw Daniel's three friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abinego, into a fiery furnace that was seven times hotter than usual, and was saved without any damage. You seem to be talking about an incident
In 1 Samuel 18, Saul threw his spear several times to kill David, but God protected him. In 2 Kings 6, the king of Syria sent troops to kill Elisha, but God It refers to the events of showing Gehazi a chariot of fire and horses of fire and blinding the enemy to victory.
From weakness he became strong, and a man like Gideon was a farmer, but he was called while threshing and defeated many Midianites with 300 men. You can read how many victorious people were weak, but they were strong by God's miraculous power and were victorious.
He became valiant in war and defeated the Gentiles, and in the Old Testament we read countless stories of defeating enemies by faith.
Women also receive their dead by resurrection. This is the case in which Elijah raised the dead son of the widow of Zarephath, Elisha was saved from the dead son of a Shunammite woman, and in addition to the case where Jesus raised the widow of Nain while going to burial, Jesus raised it.
All these events are telling the miraculous work of people of faith.
It is talking about miracles that happen in faith. Even today, there are not only miracles in the Bible, but these miracles exist today in faith.
However, people of faith do not always experience these miracles. There are also hardships, and the person who believes in these hardships is the person who overcomes the hardships that will never be wiped out and overcome.
In the second half of verse 35, it is said that some people were tortured to death in order that they might obtain a better resurrection, but did not give up. The glorious resurrection They were thrown into the lions' den for the glory of the resurrection on the day when the Lord came, but they walked along the way singing hymns.
There is a Roman prison across the street in front of the Colosseum Theater in Rome, and the road leading to the Cloiseum Theater is called the Way to Heaven. They were willing to lead the way to death as the way to heaven.
Verse 36: And others were tempted not only with teasing and scourging, but also with bondage and imprisonment.
It is the image of people of faith suffering from the evil in the world. Jeremiah was harassed by the people, captured and whipped, and suffered many hardships while disobeying God's word and proclaiming the imminent destruction of the kingdom to the people of Judah.
37 They were stoned, sawed, tempted, and killed by the sword, wearing the skins of sheep and goats, and suffered privation, affliction, and oppression.
It is said that he was stoned to death like Stephen, and the prophet Isaiah was sentenced to death by King Manasseh, who slowly cut him to death with a wooden saw. Other than that, they were tempted and killed by the sword, wandered around in sheep and goat skins, and suffered poverty, tribulation, and abuse.
The forefathers of our faith happily suffered hardships for the sake of the Lord. Jesus too
Matthew 5:11-12 Blessed are you when they curse and persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. said he did
All these things are called by faith by faith. It's not my strength, it's the power of faith. I can do miracles, hardships, and martyrdom through the faith God gives me, not my hard work.
We must not think that by faith there are only miracles. A person of faith does not mean that he cannot die from terrorism. Many people of faith were sacrificed. However, a person of faith stands up in the midst of such sacrifices and pain, and does not become discouraged or discouraged.
That is what triumphant faith is.
Now is the time to hate suffering. The modern church has nothing to share in suffering. Does not enjoy participating in suffering. In the old days, when I said building a church, I was thrilled because I didn't eat and don't wear it, even if it was difficult, I sold my house and gave it away. However, it is said that the members of the church that is building a neighboring church are building a church, so they need to move their own house and move it, but they sold the apartment and donated 30 million won and moved into a jeonse. I was shocked to hear the story.
If you do not participate in suffering, there will be no miracles and you will not be able to experience the power. It seems that the words that Jesus said in the last days, will we see those who believe in those who believe are for this age?
However, it is emphasized in parentheses that the world is not worthy of such a person of faith.
Verse 38 says, "The world is not worthy of such a man." It is said that if we translate directly into the original language of people who the world cannot afford, it can be translated as “the world is worth less than these people.” It means that you are more valuable than the whole world. That's why the world isn't a place where they can't afford them. They are truly more precious than the world, but the world cannot tolerate them because the world does not know them. Yes. Faith is more precious than gold.
Do you love the Lord more than the wealth in your hands?
Do you love the Lord more than dewy life?
If you lose the light of love, you can't meet the Lord
You can't fall in love if you watch a useless movie
This world to stay for a while is just futile
The heart of loving the Lord is more precious than gold.
Verse 39 All these received the testimony through faith, but did not receive the promise.
These people refer to the people of the Old Testament era in Iran, the forerunners of faith.
These are people who have experienced the presence of God and the power of faith. But the promise of Jesus Christ was not received.
Verse 40, because God has prepared something better for us, so that we may not be made perfect without us.
By preparing something better, he prepared the New Testament age. The saying that we cannot achieve perfection without ourselves means that the faith in the Old Testament was perfected through the coming of Jesus Christ. It is all done by faith.
conclusion:
Indeed, in this age of ours, in the age of unbelief, let's live by faith in an age when our faith is getting colder.
Even if tribulation occurs and the world changes, let's live by faith. Even if there are rumors of war and atrocities, we can win with faith.
